Mangalore, Aug 6: Maxine Machado, a brilliant 17-year-old student, gifted and trained dancer and singer, studying in Dubai College with mathematics, physics, art and design technology as major subjects, also cares for the less fortunate. The fact that her heart throbs for the downtrodden and she yearns for the welfare of the less fortunate, was evident for everyone in Prajna Counselling Centre in the city, as she came forward with an innovative initiative aptly named 'Child-to-Child (C2C)'.

Prajna Counselling Centre is an organization working for the betterment of the street and the children abused by child labour. Both the union and the state governments have been implementing certain projects meant for the benefit of such children, through this voluntary organization. The centre has been in this field for the last 20years (website: www.prajnacounsel.com).

Prajna Counselling Centre needs funds to educate the children under its care and also to provide them with professional training. Maxine along with her peers Leih-Anne Janaway and Alex Brightmore apart from brother Andrew Machado, organized activities like halloween bake sale, customized piggy banks, valentine's day candy grams etc., under the C2C initiative. They collected a sum of Rs 77,000 for Pranja Counselling Centre in this way, which used this fund to put through a few children through basic education and professional courses.

Prajna Counselling Centre has expressed its heart-felt gratitude to the kind gesture of these youngsters who have touched the hearts of not only the unfortunate children they are looking after, but also those who run the organization. People like Maxine Machado inspire them to work with zeal for the upliftment of the downtrodden, the centre says. They take heart in the belief that there are more people in various corners of the world, who are ready to join hands with them in their endeavours.
