Bantwal, Aug 13: Most of the low-lying areas in the taluk were submerged in the flood water as the Netravati River crossed its danger mark on Wednesday August 13.

Sources informed that Netravati River has reached 9.7 meters which is well beyond safe level of 9 meters on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Bantwal town was inundated as all arteries of its lifeline were overflowing owing to floods from Netravati River. The other access roads to Jakribettu, Navoor and Kotramanagundi were also submerged in floods.

The taluk administration announced holiday to all the schools and colleges in the city. The floods have also entered the grounds of S V S High School and Hindu crematorium located at Baddakatte and fish market in the vicinity.

MLA Ramanath Rai and tahshildar Manjunath visited the flood affected areas in order to survey the area and access the losses.

Recent reports reaching the Daijiworld office said that the flood level in the Netravati River is steadily receding much to the relief of anxious residents on Wednesday evening.  However, it would take few more days for the town, battered by floods to bustle with activity.

MSEZL is planning for the 4 dams in the rivers, if this kind of flood without dams, then think of the flood with dams, I think people from Uppinagady as well Bantwal need to join arabian sea or shift to some other place. MSEZL officials are not bothered as they have their houses in Andhra, Tamil Nadu and safe places in Mangalore
