Mangaluru: Four CFAL students qualify for selection camp of international Olympiad

Mangaluru Mar 7: Adding yet another feather in the cap of Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), four of their students have qualified for the selection camp of the international Olympiad.

Addressing media here on Wednesday March 7, principal of CFAL Severine Rosario said, “The four students are Shreyas (Biology) and Aneesh H (Mathematics) of Class 11, and Adithya (Mathematics) and Prathyush (Astronomy) of Class 12. These four students have qualified to the third stage of Mathematics, Biology and Astronomy Olympiad programmes, and orientation-cum-selection camps this year.

“These students are now eligible to attend a 3-4 week orientation-cum-selection camp (OCSC) at Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education and Research in Mumbai, where the international team gets selected. The students will undergo training sessions, problems solving, theoretical and experimental sessions. Depending upon the marks they score during the selection camp, the top 4-6 students will represent India at the international Olympiad. This is the only official Olympiad conducted by the government of India, ministry of Human Resources that leads to the international level. Participation in such competitive examinations can motivate students to nourish and excel in their fields of interest. The expenses of the students will be borne by the government," she informed.

“The national Olympiad starts with an examination held at nearly 1,400 schools across the country and culminate with the international Olympiads in different corners of the world. National level examinations are designed to assess the conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, laboratory skills and above all, ability to apply problem solving skills to novel situations, both theoretical and experimental,” said Severine Rosario.

Details of the qualified students


Sheyas Pai (Class 11): He is one among 35 students from the country selected in Biology Olympiad. Although he is in Class 11, he has competed with the students of Class 12 and has been selected.

Anish Hebbar (Class 11): He is one among the 31 students from the country selected in Mathematics Olympiad in the Class 11 or lower classes category.

Adithya Prakash (Class 12): He had represented India last year in the IMO (International Math Olympiad in Brazil) and is selected again this year. He is one among the only 12 students selected from the country in the Class 12 category.

Prathyush Poduval (Class 12): he is one among the 25 students selected from the country in Astronomy Olympiad in the Class 12 category.

Programme coordinator, Early Learning Centre Kindergarten, Sonia Moras and programme coordinator, CFAL, Vijay Moras were present.

    While it is heartwarming to see the good wishes from commentators and encouragement from the institute keeping in mind the students are our own it is painful to see some of our political parties and leaders as well as some religious leaders speaking the voice of discrimination along religious lines among the younger generation..

    Congratulation to CFAL and its students for being selected for Internation Olympiads... It is one of the best institute for advanced learning in Maths/Science and also for training for CET/NEET and IIT in Mangalore...
