Udupi Mar 12: Pramod Madhwaraj, minister for sports and youth services released the first sports policy of Karnataka state on Sunday, March 11. The policy aims to create an enabling, inclusive, dynamic and competitive environment in the state of Karnataka for sports.

Speaking to the reporters the minister said, "This is the first sports policy of Karnataka. We are aiming to bag three gold medals in the next Olympics by the athletes who represent Karnataka state. The policy was approved by our Cabinet on March 8 and the same was enforced with immediate effect. There is a possibility to convert sports into a business. Importance to sports should be given from primary level of education itself. Under this policy physical training (PT) teachers are appointed compulsorily. The policy was formulated after discussing the same with various departments for over two years."

"The policy aims to give reservation for sportspersons in various government jobs. Provisions are made in the policy to admit the enthusiastic students for sports training under CET entrance examinations. Attendance and re-examination for students who attend sports events must be conducted under this policy," he added.

Pension for the retired sportspersons and site allotment for the medal winners of Asian and Commonwealth games are also included in this policy. Arrangements are made for the investment of corporate companies on sports under the 'Corporate Social Responsibility' (CSR) funds. The policy aims at making Bengaluru as a national sports hub. Sports science and nutritious food for the sportspersons are also included under this policy.

One hour period for sports will be made compulsory for students from primary to degree level. Maximum 25 grace marks for sports students in each subject will be awarded depending upon their performance in the sports field. A special brand ambassador to promote sports in the state will be hired. Specially-abled sports students will be given special provisions for participating in national and international events.

    Many of our sportsmen suffer due to lack of support . This is a step in the right direction . Just ;like IPL tournaments in every sport at the distrct /taluk levels should be played . Mimimum 10k should be guaranteed for every district player /winner

    Appreciate, after 4 years 10 months in the government, we have a sports policy for next one month.
    Pramod is not to be blamed. This inordinate delay is because of red tapism. Thanks Siddaramayya govt.

    You forgot all other development in 4 years 10 months and picked up this one. Understand this is an on going process till the last day he is in the office. It should be continued by the next person if changed. We have to learn to think different first and stop finding faults in each and everything.

    Have you ever thought what are the developments Mr. Madhwaraj did since he resumed office. I also appreciate Mr. Raghupati Bhat the developments he did during his tenure..
