Byndoor, Mar 12: After efforts and persistent follow up, Byndoor has emerged as a new taluk. Although Byndoor has some facilities, it is in need of more. Important among them is a well-equipped hospital.

There are no proper private or government hospitals in and around Byndoor. In case of accidents or emergencies, one has to rush to Kundapur to get medical help. Because of non-availability of hospital with proper facilities, lives have been lost. A good hospital should have come up here long back, but somehow this has never happened.

Although Byndoor is a growing city, unfortunately it does not have even a private hospital backed by good facilities. New private hospitals are being opened at Kundapur, but businessmen, for some strange unknown reasons, have not made up their minds to open similar hospitals at Byndoor. Good private hospitals can thrive here if they have good doctors and modern facilities. People from Uttara Kannada district can also avail of medical facilities here if a proper hospital comes into being.

Uttara Kannada district too is in need of good hospital and places like Bhatkal do not have good hospitals even now. People from Bhatkal and surrounding areas now come to Kundapur or Manipal for treatment. During the recent grave road accident at Shirali, many felt that a good super specialty hospital at Byndoor would have helped the victims.

Byndoor has become a taluk, and it is developing into a taluk headquarters. Naturally it is in need of basic infrastructure. The community health centre here needs to be upgraded as taluk hospital. Women of rural areas around Byndoor badly need maternity ward and women doctors. Out of the sanctioned strength of 48, the community health centre here has only 20 staff. People who fought for the creation of this taluk should also pay attention towards these needs.

As health service is an important aspect of the taluk centre, at least the community health centre here should be streamlined and improved immediately. Vacant posts should be filled. A modern hospital should come up here, which should be able to provide service to the needy all 24 hours of the day.

Because of absence of proper hospital at Byndoor, even for small health problems and delivery, people depend on hospitals at Kundapur. As national highway passes through Byndoor, accidents happen often and victims have to travel long to get proper treatment and it takes time to reach Kundapur because of traffic congestion. As such, a super specialty hospital is very much needed in Byndoor.

Byndoor lacks proper health care facilities. People even from Bhatkal and North Kanara are dependent on Manipal hospital for health care. Sometimes distance and time will cost the life of the patient.

It is high time that Byndoor and Kundapur areas get a advanced tertiary care hospital.
