Mangalore: Orissa Violence – Fr Edward Sequeira from Kirem Injured Critically

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (MM/RD)

Mangalore, Aug 26: Daijiworld's reliable sources said that a religious priest, who was one among the injured in Sangh Parivar activists' attack on churches and other institutions run by Catholic missionaries on Monday August 25, hailed from Mangalore and was serving in Orissa for the last few year.

The priest has been identified as Fr Edward Sequeira (52), a native of Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem located near Kinnigoli. He was critically injured when the miscreants attacked an orphanage in Padampun in Kuntupalli village in Bargarh district. He had wounds of assault all over his body and was taken to Padampur Government Hospital, soon after the attack. However, owing to his critical condition, he has now been shifted to Orul Medical College Hospital. Though he is out of danger, breathing problem still persists, sources added.

Fr Edward Sequeira is the son Mary Sequeira and late Raymond Sequeira of Kirem. He is the fourth among the 10 children of their family. He had done his primary schooling in Kirem and graduation from St Philomena’s College and later joined SVD congregation.

He was sent to Orissa after he was ordained as a priest. He had built a church in Madhupur in Orissa. He was also managing the orphanage and leprosy centers in Bargarh district.

While wishing Fr.Edward Sequeira a speedy recovery and also Pray God for granting him more courage and fortitude in carrying on his noble work in the backward state of Orissa and face the persecution from anti national forces ,a word of caution to these internal terrorists that they should know that Almighty is watching the wrongs from above and the day is not too far when severe punishment will befall on these criminals through natures fury in the form of earthquakes, cyclones, and other calamities till they become repentful for their misdeeds and seek atonement for their sins.

Remember the earthquake in Gujarath in the year 2000 and the killer cyclone in Orissa in 2003.Both these calamities struck the respective states after severe attacks on Christians and the gruesome murder of Graham Stains and his two minor sons.

It is very sad to learn that the Christians have been attacked mercilessly and as usual Orissa government is least bothered to do anything about it. Many missionaries of Orissa have been subjected to various problems, violent attacks and killings even from the beginning. Fr. Edward Sequeira was doing a humanitarian service and he and many other missionaries became the victim of this heartless, brutal miscreants in the name of their religion.

My heart goes out to him and I pray that God give Fr. Sequeira the strength to bear the pain and suffering and recover fully. I also pray for his parents/family back home and also all other missionaries and religious sisters serving the Lord. Finally I hope those responsible for this heinous act will not go away unpunished.

This is the distorted nationalism of fundamentalist forces in action. They are attacking fellow citizens just because they are of another faith. The constitution has bestowed religious freedom for each of its citizen, but what happens on the ground is a mockery of that.

Somehow the people of India fear the christians more than the others why. We have not taken, only given, We have never killed infact gave life, We never preach violence and eye for an eye instead turn the other cheek, love thy neighbour as yourself, and prepare thyself for the world to come for things of this world dont matter to us.

Where ever christians lived the locals prospered a lot, cities like madras, cochin, bombay, bangalore, calcutta etc etc the list goes on so why all this hatred who is the one who fears us the most. Its the evil one and his cronies.
