Mangaluru: MLC Ganesh Karnik demands release of Postcard News founder Mahesh Hegde, slams govt

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Apr 3: BJP MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik has come to the strong defence of Postcard News founder Mahesh Vikram Hegde who was recently arrested for publishing a fake news on his website.

Postcard News had published a fake news claiming that a Jain sage was 'attacked' by Muslim youth, when the reality was that he met with an accident. A case was filed in this matter, and Hegde was arrested by the police in Bengaluru on March 29.

In press release, Capt Karnik criticized chief minister Siddaramaiah alleging 'misuse' of powers.

Capt Ganesh Karnik

"The CM who is afraid of defeat in the elections and the irresponsible home minister Ramalinga Reddy have used the police department to arrest Moodbidri-based social activist Mahesh Vikram Hegde for petty reasons. The activist used to alert the society through his sharp writings.

"It is an indication that the government is acting with conceit and high-handedness. A person had posted an unpleasant message in the social network. Though the post was removed after sometime, the government acted on it and arrested Mahesh Vikram Hegde, thereby misusing law and making it difficult for him to obtain bail in the last five days.

"It is condemnable that the government is misusing the police even after election code of conduct came into effect and the police department and its senior officers are acting like the puppets of Congress party. The police department which should have maintained law and order without favoritism is misusing its power. They have become victims of official pressure and lack shame," he said.

"The misdeeds of Congress to curtail freedom will prove disastrous for the party in the days to come. People do not forgive such behaviour. Therefore I urge the government on behalf of the citizens to release Mahesh Vikram Hegde who was arrested without reason," he urged.

Mahesh Vikram Hegde

Not just Karnik, but other top BJP leaders too have come to the defence of Mahesh Hegde and demanded his release. Notwithstanding the fact that he was arrested for allegedly circulating fake news with an intention to incite communal tension in poll-bound Karnataka, the BJP leaders have criticised the state government for curtailing 'freedom of speech' and branded the government as 'anti-Hindu'. Hashtags like #ReleaseMaheshHegde started trending among BJP supporters.

Taking to Twitter, union minister Anant Kumar Hegde said, "Shame on the state government led by Siddaramaiah, which is behaving in dictatorial terms in arresting Mahesh Vikram Hegde. Ensure to follow the true democratic spirit in fighting us rather than doing a coward act. #ReleaseMaheshHegde (sic)."

MLA C T Ravi tweeted, "Wondering if Nationalist @mvmeet is arrested because he ran a successful campaign to raise funds for the children of two Hindu schools run by @RSSorg Leader Sri @KalladkaBhat that were denied funds by Anti-Hindu CONgress Government (sic)."

Mysuru MP Pratap Simha was one of the first to break the news of the arrest on Twitter. "Today morning, the coward Congress government in Karnataka arrested Mahesh Vikram Hegde under the unconnected section 66 of the IT Act, that too by using CCB! Shame on you (sic)," he tweeted. However, he got the facts wrong, as Hegde was arrested under the IPC sections not under the IT Act.

The discipline learned in the Army does not suits his name continue misusing title of 'Captain' while defending the fake news portal who want to burn India.
Mr. Karnik should know that the founder of fake news website, Postcard, has been arrested by Karnataka Police for spreading lies demonising Muslims in the state.
In his last web update Mahesh Vikram, who is also followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter, had posted a fake news about a Jain monk being attacked by Muslim youth in Bangalore. The truth was that the said monk had got hurt in a road accident in Kanakapura.
In his tweet, designed to incite communal violence and demonise Muslims, Hegde had also posted images of the injured monk with his tweet saying, “No one is safe in Siddaramaiah’s Karnataka.” His fake news was fervently shared by the right-wing brigade thousands of times.
Hegde has been found spreading fake news to incite communal violence on multiple occasions. In December, the website had falsely reported that one 18-year old Paresh Kamalakar Mesta was tortured, his body mutilated and heads splits into two because he was a member of Sangh Parivar. However, the victim’s father had made it clear that his son had no association with the Sangh Parivar giving credence to suspicion that the BJP may have attempted to communalise his murder to extract electoral gains in the poll-bound state.
Another fake news by the same website had become a bone of contention between Karnataka and Rajasthan in August last year, when it falsely likened the Karnataka government to that of Taliban rule. It had further added that Hindus needed to deposit Rs 10 Lakhs to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. This claim was immediately rejected by the state government.
Being served in the Army, Mr.Karnik wanted internal security of this nation's challenged with heads rolling innocent Indians bloodbath only for the sake of votes?

I had great regards for Capt Ganesh Karnik. I considered him as Staesman rather than ordinary politician. If Karnik supports this criminal third rated portal owner who insulted Onake Obavva and Kittur Chennamma, then I must say, I lost the regards on Karnik.

    PLEASE Mr. Karnik!!
On behalf of citizens ? Really now ??!!
The citizens want him and all such fakenews people behind the bars with no facilities like the alleged sasikala case, else he would start posting from inside!!
Postcard news posts such information that cannot be found anywhere else and they got enlightened and awakened only before 2014 elections.
If you guys have noticed the BJP supporters sharing the same fakenews! try searching it online and you wouldn't find any info as such.

Postcard is a serial offender, writing low, porn-level articles about Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Nehru and all other BJP's opponents. When Postcard went to the extent of saying Rani Chennamma had maintained an illicit relationship with the British, Onake Obava had climbed into bed with Hyder Ali, where was Ganesh Karnik?

In fact Pratap Simha shared this article on his FB page and then deleted after much outrage. He then said he had no connection with Postcard and today entire BJP is batting for Mahesh Hegde. Their contribution in stoking communal feelings, creating enmity between communities is beyond measures.

It's a fake news factory and even after knowing this BJP leaders are supporting them. It clearly means, BJP needs fake news factories to spread propaganda, create 'deshbhakti' bubbles. BJP came to power with the help of these fake news factories and hence if they are closed, BJP's run towards power across India too would be halted. When an accredited journo was arrested in Mangalore for silly reason, where was Ganesh Karnik?

Creating and Spreading fake news is wrong, that too with the selfish motive or to incite violence is definitely wrong. I do not support BJP for this at the same time Police should also arrest other people who spread fake news through WhatsApp immaterial their alliance with any Political party.
