Orissa Attack: Film Maker Mahesh Bhatt Leads Delegation to Governor Jamir

Mumbai, August 28: An eight-member delegation of people representing various religious organizations led by noted film maker Mahesh Bhatt today met the governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan here, under the banner of All India Christian Council.

The delegation strongly condemned the incidents of attacks on christians in Orissa state and requested to the governor to convey their sentiments to the government of India. The delegation requested the union government to step in to save the lives and property of Christians in that state. The delegation also demanded that the armed forces and relief materials be rushed to Orissa for the benefit of the victims of the communal violence there.

The governor assured the delegation, that he would immediately convey the sentiments of the delegation members to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the home minister.

Dr Abraham Mathai, All India Christian Council general secretary, Fr Anthony Charanghat representing the Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Maulana Saeed Noori, Raza Academy and Sardar Rajinder Singh from the Sikh Association of Mumbai were the prominent dignitaries who met the state governer.
