Puttur, Apr 8: After a truck that was on reverse gear hit a telephone pole at Alankaru near Kadaba in the taluk on Saturday April 7, the pole fell on the head of a passerby, causing is death.

The deceased was Girish (32), son of the late Angara from Balaje in Kunthoor village. The incident happened in front of a wine shop located near Suruli Road in Alankaru. Girish was walking towards a waiting auto rickshaw to go back home after buying some things from a petty shop by the roadside, when the tragedy occurred.

A truck loaded with soft drink bottles was trying to reach the main road after delivering stock to a shop. It is said that the driver of lorry who drove the vehicle on reverse direction was reckless and moving at high speed, because of which this accident happened. Girish, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, was taken to the hospital in the town and then to a private hospital at Mangaluru for treatment. But Girish breathed his last within sometime since reaching the hospital.

Kadaba police visited the spot, conducted inquest and took the lorry into custody. As per information, Girish, who worked as rubber tapper, is survived by wife and a daughter.
