Future plans depend on Yogi: Doctor arrested in UP hospital tragedy case

Gorakhpur, Apr 29(ANI): Dr Kafeel Khan who was arrested in connection with the death of over 70 infants at a hospital in Gorakhpur last year, walked out free on Saturday.

Speaking to ANI on the same, Khan said that he wishes to join the hospital and continue serving people, if Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cancels his suspension.

"There were times when I used to think that what wrong have I done to be in jail. My future plans depend on CM Yogi, if he revokes my suspension I'll join the hospital again & continue serving people," he said.

Khan said he is finally relieved to be back with his family after eight months, even though he is mentally tired, emotionally drained and physically sick.

He was arrested in connection with the death of over 70 children at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College Hospital in September last year.

In August 2017, as many as 70 children died, allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply, followed by another 70 in just four days, 15 of which passed away due to Encephalitis. The hospital, as well as the government, had received flak over the negligence.

FIRs were registered against nine persons including the suspended principal of BRD Medical College, Dr Rajiv Mishra, Dr Satish, in-charge of oxygen supply and head of the anaesthesia department, Dr Khan, in-charge of the 100-bed AES (acute encephalitis syndrome) ward and two officials from the oxygen supplying agency the Pushpa Sales Private Limited.

Khan was also reportedly accused of stealing oxygen cylinders for his private clinic from the BRD hospital.

India's doctors have deplored certain remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in London that they see as an attempt to make them "scapegoats" for the problems of the country's healthcare system that successive governments, including his own, have failed to address.

In his speech last week, circulated through YouTube, Modi had alluded to doctors' foreign trips to attend pharmaceutical company-sponsored conferences, appearing to imply a nexus between them.

"You probably know that doctors' conferences are held sometimes in Singapore, sometimes in Dubai. They don't go there because people are ill there; they go because the pharmaceutical companies need them to," Modi had said.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) said that tarring the entire medical community with the same brush was not expected of the Prime Minister.

The IMA is India's largest body of doctors with a membership of over 280,000, while the Mumbai-based AMC has a membership of about 11,500 consultants.

It was an open insult to thousands of Indian Doctors serving abroad. Neith PM Modi has shown any respect to the the profession nor his Chief Minister Yogi in Uttar Pradesh.

Dr.Khan I had seen the deplorable condition of this government hospital were father son Yogis in ruling for last 40 years.
When 13 children died in railway crossing CM Yogi addressed the agitate crowd 'Nautanki'. He has no value for the lives of more than 10,000 children died in this hospital.

Dr Khan shift your base to Karnataka you will find suitable atmosphere to serve the people. As long as BJP rules any state there is no development, no progress and certainly no justice for honest and hardworking people like you.
