Mangaluru, May 5: A passenger hailing from Nellyady was detained at Mangaluru International Airport here on Saturday May 5 for possessing live bullets.

Ismail (63) was about to board a flight to Nagpur when he was detained by CISF personnel at the airport, who found 15 live rounds of 0.32 revolver in his hand bag.

He was handed over to Bajpe police station as he did not have gun licence in his possession at the time of travelling.

On enquiry by Bajpe police, it was learnt that Ismail has a licence having jurisdiction all over Karnataka state and the weapon has already been deposited at Beltangady police station on April 4 in view of the election code of conduct.

He had left the rounds in the hand bag and forgotten to remove them before air travel. He was later released.

Ismail is an agriculturist and a businessman.

Upon verification, it was established that the incident was an independent event and had nothing to do with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mangaluru the same evening.
