New Delhi, May 8 (IANS): Two ambulance staffers were burnt to death when the vehicle caught fire. Their bodies have been recovered, the police said on Tuesday.
Delhi Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said a call was received by the Malviya Nagar Police Station in South Delhi about a fire that engulfed an ambulance late on Monday.
A preliminary probe revealed that the vehicle belonging to the RANA services caught fire from a mosquito coil burning inside the ambulance.
Two men -- Rahul, 24, from Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh, and Guddu, 25, from Khanpur here, were sleeping inside the van and were killed.
Subodh, 40, managed to escape from the burning ambulance. He has been admitted in Safdarjung hospital with burn injuries.
Police said the strong winds on Monday night might have led to the blaze spreading quickly.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
