Mangalore, Sep 9: The Little Theatre Group run by Patsy Lobo and Peggy Gonsalves enacted a play titled “Aladdin amd His Exotic Friends,” on Sunday, September 7, at the 116 Year old “Nandigudda House” on SL Lobo Road, Mangalore. 18 children aged 4-12 years provided an excellent display of their acting, singing and dancing skills, to the delight of an exclusive audience of parents and invited guests. The scenes of the play were enacted in different locations of the heritage home, with the backdrop posters designed and painted by Anjali Gonsalves, well-known exhibition designer.
The Little Theatre Group aims at providing an opportunity to project and promote the talents of the children, to create a conducive environment for the children to develop creative and innovative skills, encouraging team work and leaderhip qualities besides promoting friendship between the children and their parents.
The play was adapted, modified and scripted from the original story, “Aladdin and His Magic Lamp’ by Patsy Lobo, with appropriate messages for both the children and the adults. The inspiration for the messages came from the book, “The Secret,” by Rhonda Byrne, which refers to the wishes that Aladdin seeks from the “Genie”.
The message brought out through this play was, to “Let us have the faith and humility to place our wishes and aspirations to the Universal God".
Patsy Lobo welcomed the guests and Peggy Gonsalves proposed vote of Thanks. Dr Derek Lobo, in his speech, highlighted the fact that the children represented different religions, languages and schools and their parents hailed from different backgrounds, professions and affiliations. Yet, they all blended and bonded harmoniously and superbly performed as a team. “I saw in these children, the beautiful mosaic of unity in diversity, that is the biggest asset of our beloved India,” said Dr Lobo and urged the parents and all progressive people of our country to ensure that this mosaic does not get cracked or damaged and cause peril to the future generations.
