The run, which began at the HO Annexe Building of Canara Bank, Manipal, was flagged off with the release of tricolour balloons, setting a patriotic tone. The 21-km run was flagged off by Hariprasad Rai, president of the Udupi Amateur Athletic Association, 10-km by Captain Ganesh Karnik, 5-km by Ravikumar Kukatlaopalli, 3-km by MLA Yashpal Suvarna, and the fun run by Udupi district deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K. Regular exercise and running can bring positive changes to our lifestyle.” Former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat said, “Udupi has a great enthusiasm for marathons, and I hope the number of participants in the Freedom Marathon continues to grow with every edition.” Captain Ganesh Karnik addressed the crowd saying, “Freedom does not mean doing whatever we want; it means responsibility. I congratulate Canara Bank for organising this event. As we look back at 70–80 years of glorious independence, we must also reflect on how, in many ways, we have become loud, impractical, dishonest, corrupt, lazy, intolerant, and undisciplined. Saying ‘Jai Hind’ is not just about remembering great sacrifices — with every slogan, we take on a greater responsibility. Today, we must commit ourselves to decisions and actions that will benefit future generations. I once again congratulate the organisers.” Ramesh Kanchan, president of the Udupi Taluk Guarantee Implementation Committee, stated, “Sunday is usually a day of rest, but all of you have come here today, which is great for your health and fitness. This also inspires others. I wish good health to everyone.” Ravikumar Kukatlaopalli, general secretary, Canara Bank, said, “This is the first time I have witnessed such a grand event, organised so beautifully. I will carry this message across the country. We plan to replicate this entire event in Visakhapatnam with 5,000 participants, holding a singular unity run for the fraternity.” Udupi district BJP president Naveen Shetty Kutyaru said, “This fourth edition of the Freedom Run can truly be called a run for the country. It is encouraging to see the number of participants grow with each edition. The organisation’s goal is to build a healthy society.” Kishore Alva, corporate affairs, Adani Power Limited, said, “Manipal is the pride of Karnataka and our entire district. This is a wonderful event, and I wish good luck to all.” Dr Narendra, orthopaedic surgeon, added, “Today we are here for another edition of the Freedom Run. We are proud to be Indians and of what our nation has achieved in recent years. The Indian Army and all our armed forces take great pride in their health and fitness. As a doctor, I must stress that health is of prime importance. The best investment in life is in one’s health. Everyone should strive to stay fit.” MLA Yashpal Suvarna also shared his appreciation for the event and extended best wishes to the participants.
