Kuwait, Sep 16: In view of the ongoing attacks on Catholic places of worship in and around Mangalore, representatives of Indian Catholics in Kuwait held a meeting today at Cathedral premises in Kuwait City on 15th September to voice their support & solidarity to the Catholic community in Mangalore. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Melwyn D’Cunha, the community leaders in unison strongly condemned the atrocities against the catholic community and damage to places of worship. The members present were particularly alarmed at the quantum of destruction caused to the places of worship and the prevailing sense of fear psychosis among Catholics created by only a handful of miscreants.
The community leaders discussed various ways of showing their support & solidarity to the catholic community in Mangalore. It was unanimously decided to send a protest memorandum to the heads of Governments of India and Karnataka along with other officials concerned condemning the brutal acts of religious fundamentalists and to give all possible protection to Catholics and their places of worship.
It was also decided to hold a special “Prayer Service for Peace & Solidarity” on Thursday 18th September 08 at 6:00 PM at the Cathedral auditorium. All Indian Catholic community members are requested to be present.
