Kuwait, Sep 16: In view of the ongoing attacks on Catholic places of worship in and around Mangalore, representatives of Indian Catholics in Kuwait held a meeting today at Cathedral premises in Kuwait City on 15th September to voice their support & solidarity to the Catholic community in Mangalore. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Melwyn D’Cunha, the community leaders in unison strongly condemned the atrocities against the catholic community and damage to places of worship. The members present were particularly alarmed at the quantum of destruction caused to the places of worship and the prevailing sense of fear psychosis among Catholics created by only a handful of miscreants.

The community leaders discussed various ways of showing their support & solidarity to the catholic community in Mangalore. It was unanimously decided to send a protest memorandum to the heads of Governments of India and Karnataka along with other officials concerned condemning the brutal acts of religious fundamentalists and to give all possible protection to Catholics and their places of worship.

It was also decided to hold a special “Prayer Service for Peace & Solidarity” on Thursday 18th September 08 at 6:00 PM at the Cathedral auditorium. All Indian Catholic community members are requested to be present.

Following representatives of associations were present in the meeting;

Kuwait Canara Welfare Association, Shirva Welfare Association, Kundapur Varado Welfare Association, Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait, Aloysian Alumni Kuwait, Kuwait Pangla Association, Kanajar Welfare Association, Belman Welfare Association, United Derebalites, Goan Welfare Society, Kala Mogi Kuwait and Carmel Convent sisters.

    We welcome the move taken by you let more and more organizations follow you in condememing the ghastly deeds and then the brutal attacks on the peaceful protesters. I am really sadened to see in the news that the brutality of the place was so high that they never spared the innocent Nuns, children and Women.

    It now appears to me and to every Manglorean that the district adminstration has totally failed to bring to task the anti-social elements as informed by his Lordship Rt Rev Aloysuis Paul Dsouza. Now we in Mangalore appeal to all christians the world over and specially all Mangloreans to rise up from your slumber write protest letters, peresentations,Memorandums and emails to all concerened either personally or collectively so that this inhuman incidents never occur in the future.
