Bengaluru, Jun 5: In a heart-warming incident, a woman constable from Bengaluru did a humanitarian act by breastfeeding an abandoned newborn found by a rag picker on June 1.

The baby was rescued by the Electronics City police after a shopkeeper informed them about the newborn baby stuffed in a plastic bag and abandoned under a bush near a house under construction in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru. The baby was first found by a rag picker who immediately informed the shopkeeper.

The baby was rescued by assistant sub-inspector Nagesh R who immediately rushed to the spot. The baby was then taken to a nearby hospital and the doctors treated him free of cost. The baby was then brought to the station and was handed over to a lady constable.

Archana, serving at the police station as a constable, and who is also mother of a three-month-old boy, seeing the baby weak and motionless, breastfed him and saved him for starvation.

The assistant sub-inspector bought new clothes for the baby and the baby was named after chief minister Kumaraswamy. "It is the government’s baby now, and we decided to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government," he was quoted by The Hindu.

The baby has been now handed over to the Shishu Mandir on Hosur Road.
