President approves governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Jun 20 (TOI): President Ram Nath Kovind today approved the imposition of governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, a day after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the President's approval, governor NN Vohra will be presiding over the state. He's doing do for the fourth time, having overseen governor's rule in 2008, 2015 and 2016. Vohra was set to complete his second term in a few days, butis now set to continue in Raj Bhavan at least till the conclusion of 'Amarnath Yatra' on August 26.

Yesterday, following the BJP's withdrawal, the PDP's Mehbooba Mufti yesterday submitted her resignation as Jammu and Kashmir chief minister to governor Vohra. Then, late yesterday evening, after concluding his consultations with all the major political parties in the state, governor Vohra forwarded his report to the President of India for imposition of governor’s rule under Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP pulled out the alliance saying it was "untenable" to continue.
"It has become untenable for the BJP to continue its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir, hence we are withdrawing," BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said at a press conference this afternoon.

With J&K having a provision for governor’s rule for six months, the BJP leadership is keen to let this period run as close to the end of 2018 as possible. The calculation is that if the six months ended in December, it would be too close to the Lok Sabha elections to be scheduled ahead of the national polls. The electoral process for the Lok Sabha is expected to begin to unroll from March onward.

Sources told TOI that governor’s rule — which is specific to J&K — could be followed by President’s rule and this would also delay the assembly election. But the conversion of governor’s rule to President’s rule would need ratification by Parliament.

BJP Held 'Doubly Responsible' by opposition for political failures in J&K.
Reactions to BJP abruptly ending its alliance with the PDP have seen the party facing flak for years of failed promises, a massive increase in casualties in the state, and for pushing the state into further turmoil.
BJP for abruptly ending its alliance with the PDP in J&K, has plunged the state, which has been marred by a deteriorating law and order situation, into greater uncertainty.

First, they formed the government against the character of their mandate. Then, subsequently, since 2015, there has been a massive increase in the martyrdom of jawans and civilian casualties. It signifies the total political failure of the BJP’s approach in J&K. That underlines that BJP cannot handle issues of governance and national security.the BJP cannot absolve itself from a series of political failures in the state over the last four years.
BJP was facing flak from its core constituencies for not raising its age-old issues like abolition of Article 370 or having an ambiguous stance on whether it should have a dialogue with separatists or not. Now by pulling out of the government, it may go back to its hyper-nationalist campaign. But, in the meantime, it has pushed the state into greater turmoil.
President of approval of Governor's rule is nothing but agreeing to simultaneous polls with Lok Sabha even though two years of term is remaining.
Elections in India is not cheap when the farmers don't even get support price for standing crop. Many government schemes under budget. Government dont even have money to buy uniform for soldiers and ammunition can only last for 30 days if full scale war.
Considering the base cost of 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rs 10 crores requires for each assembly segment for election. In the 87-member assembly if one multiply the cost India can get rid of bank loans, provide mid meal for the nation.
Does President of India real care for the nation or BJP's poll prospects?

Bjp can't run away after ruining and destroying JK. They can't shift the blame to the PDP alone. It is the Centre's abject failure. The BJP will have to face accountability.

..Muftis Ramdan ceasefire backfired badly..eventhough central govt/security forces reluctant she forced one month ceasefire which resulted in spike in terror activities resulting in reversal of years of work..killing of kashmiri editor who was part of peace dialogue delegation forced BJP to pull out from Govt.. but very surprisingly no candle march for editor, no outrage,no press under attack, no democracy under threat, no discussion/debate..what we can expect..

..Yes, you are right..this is what state's top police officer SP Vaid said 'Security forces are going to ramp up anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor's rule would make it "much easier" for the security forces to conduct anti terror operation since Governor direct under central Govt control..
