Mangaluru, Jun 20: "In order to solve issues pertaining to the road transport department, we have plans to start RTO call centre," said John Misquith, senior motor vehicle inspector and in-charge assistant road transport officer, Mangaluru, here on Tuesday June 19.
Speaking during Janaspandana at the Mangaluru road transport office (RTO), Misquith said, "The matter came up for discussion during a central committee meeting held in Bengaluru. Through call centre, citizens can register their complaints and also it will be helpful for the department to respond quickly."
Social activist Hasanabba Ammembal during the meeting said that despite Lokayukta's order to construct temporary bus stops in selected places from Lady Goschen to Light House Hill road, no action has been taken by the MCC or the district administration. Misquith responded and said that he would write to the district administration and the MCC.
Hasanabba also urged during the meeting to reserve two seats in buses for senior citizens. If other passengers sit on the seats meant for senior citizens they should be fined, he said.
G K Bhat said that due to the introduction of Vahan4 software, only 30 applications for learner's licence can be taken up per day and also pointed out that the process to issue driving licence has slowed down, to which Misquith replied that the issue has been resolved by the introduction of Sarathi4 software, the latest version of online issuance of learners license (LL) and driving license (DL). "Now, we are providing 30 slots. In the coming days, it would be increased to 60 once the personnel get used to the operations of the new system," he said.
