Mangaluru: Tulu Sahitya Academy announces winners of annual awards

Mangaluru, Jun 25: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Monday, June 25 announced the names of the winners of its annual awards for the year 2017.

The awards will be presented in two categories namely honorary awards and book awards, informed president of Tulu Sahitya Acadamy A C Bhandary in a press meet here.

Addressing the media, he said that the honorary awards will be conferred on Dr Shimanthur Narayana Shetty (Tulu Yakshagana), Sesappa Pambada (Tulu folk) and Shakuntala Bhat (Tulu literature).

“The book awards will be conferred on Dr Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar (research on 'Tulunaadina Janapada Pradharshana Kalegalu'), Chandrahas Suvarna for his story book 'Gaggara' and Roopakala Alva for her 'Padeppire' book of poetry," Bhandary said.

"The honorary award comprises cash prize of Rs 50,000, a shawl and citation while the book award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and citation.

"The award function will be held on June 30 at Tulu Bhavan Urwa Store and will be inaugurated by Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Shree Kshetra Odiyoor. Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader, MLA Mangaluru south Vedvyas Kamath, chief whip Legislative Council, Ivan D’Souza, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, zilla panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, and mayor Bhaskar Moily will be present,” he said.

Registrar of Tulu Sahitya Academy Chandrahas Rai B, members of the academy Shivananda Karkera and Tarnath Gatty Kapikad were present.
