Mangaluru, Jun 25: District in-charge minister U T Khader held a meeting with smart city board directors, members, officials and local representatives at KUDIFC office on Monday, June 25.
Briefing the media on the decisions taken in the meeting, he said, “Collectively, we the local representatives and the district administration have decided to work towards making Mangaluru, a model city which can be followed by other cities in the Smart City project. The progress of work will be keenly looked into. The managing director will be accountable for the whole project and he will have all powers which include choosing of constituencies. It will be his responsibility to get work done by other officials and contractors. If they fail to do their duty, he will have the right to take action against them. He will arrange a review meeting in every 15 days. Meanwhile, I will summon a meeting with local MLAs and representatives once in a month to evaluate the progress of the project. Smart City is a project which will benefit all citizens. Without any political motive, all representatives should involve in it actively. With unity, we can complete this project in a record breaking time.
“Without people’s support, we cannot move forward with this project. Road widening, construction of drainages, footpaths, and bridges all are included in the Smart City project. So there are possibilities of land acquisition. Hence, people should cooperate with officials and support them,” he said.
About the delay in land conversion process in the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation he said, “It has come to my notice that there is a delay in the land conversion process in city limits. There are technical reasons due to which there is delay during the time of application and further process. I have directed the officials to submit a detailed report on this within June 26. I will consider this matter seriously and discuss it with officials in Bengaluru.”
MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Y Bharath Shetty, and mayor Bhaskar Moily were present.
