Bangalore, Sep 29: "My followers are feeling hurt, let down and are unhappy, as I am not made the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president," confessed ex-deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking to reporters after holding talks with the new KPCC president R V Deshpande who had come to his residence on Sunday September 28 morning, he said that he had tried to pacify his supporters. "They crossed over to the Congress, reposing faith in me. Now they feel insecure. It is the duty of the party top brass to give them suitable posts in the party," he opined.
"I was never an active contender for the post of the KPCC president. But national president of the party Sonia Gandhi and in-charge of Congress state affairs Prathviraj Chauhan asked me as to whether I would accept the post of the KPCC president if entrusted. I said, I am ready to shoulder this responsibility," he revealed.
"There is every chance that some of the people from the state might have complained against me, to the high command. It would be wrong to expect that every one will support me," he clarified. In resply to a question, he asserted that he is not considering the option of quitting the Congress, and that he will continue to participate inthe 'Ahinda' conventions as before.
Deshpande said, that his visit to Siddaramaiah was a courtesy call. "I have been visiting senior leaders, soliciting their co-operation for the organizational strengthening of the party. I have done the same with Siddaramaiah, he added.
"I never lobbied for this post. The high command has arrived at a decision after weighing different options and considering pros and cons. I was appointed after obtaining the concurrence of all the state leaders, including siddaramaiah," he said.
