Mangaluru, Jul 9: National Service Scheme (NSS) students of Dr P Dayananda Pai - Sathish Pai government first grade college of Car Street in the city conducted the transplanting of seedlings in the paddy fields of poor farmers which are adopted by the college, on Sunday, July 8.
In a heart-warming gesture, more than 100 students transplanted the seedlings from early morning till evening, in the midst of incessant rains, across four acres of paddy fields.
Last year too, a team from this college had adopted barren paddy fields of the second ward under Konaje village and had tilled the land themselves, completed all the work related to agriculture and harvested the crop. The students used the rice grown by them for lunch at college and this had attracted the attention of all in the state of Karnataka.
Prof Rajshekar Hebbar, principal of the college and Dr Naveen N Konaje participated in the event along with the students.
