Mangaluru: Vehicles parked outside marriage halls face cases, fine

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 10: Realizing that cars parked outside the marriage halls are creating a nuisance for the traffic, the police have begun to book offending cars. On Monday July 9, several cars found parked outside a hall in the city were locked by the police. The police had received complaints about these cars creating problems for the smooth movement of traffic.

Traffic snarl was experienced near Panemangaluru Bridge in Bantwal near Sagar Hall where a marriage was performed. As vehicles lined up on both sides of the highway, the highway was blocked. The Bantwal police registered cases against the owner and manager of the said hall. The watchman of the hall stated that the owner of the hall had asked him not to allow any vehicle to enter the hall premises, even though space for parking is provided there. The police had to clear the road of these vehicles and vehicles of union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda and deputy commissioner of the district (DC) were to pass through this stretch.

Both Gowda and DC got stuck in traffic. In addition to owner and manager of the hall, car owners who blocked traffic were also booked by the police. There are complaints about similar problems being experienced near a hall in Ballalbagh as it is said that an unauthorized kitchen has been set up at the space earmarked for parking. A hall in Bolar here is another place where traffic gets affected. In the past, vehicles of guests were parked in a vacant spot nearby but now there is no parking space as a building is coming up there. As such, cars are parked on the road.

There are many places in the city and elsewhere like Yekkur and Thokkottu where cars of people attending functions in halls block traffic. The police are expected to tackle this problem in a big way in the coming days.

Foremost, regulate the cars in the city. Because, once a new car is registered, the traffic department washes its hands off - no more tracking about what the vehicle is used for, how it keeps or breaks traffic rules, whether its parked in legal or illegal area, etc. Lucky enough if the patrol officer is able to get hold of the hand of the driver to deliver a fine, else God knows from whom to collect the charges. Some people speed past the traffic police even when he is asked to stop after an offense.

Enforce annual renewal of registration so that accumulated parking fees can be collected. Images of video recorded for offense should be available online upon wanting to know if the fine is legitimate. Expiry date of the registration should show on the number plate.

The department must change itself to change people. It can live in stone age and ask people to behave.

Request to the Police Personnel to visit Mallikatte area. The Lions Seva Mandir, Jugul group of Halls, Suma Sadan ( a hall above the residence) and now Congress Office have been leading to haphazard parking whenever there are programmes in these places. So much so that vehicles are parked in front of the gates of residential houses and entry to cross roads and thus blocks the movement of people nad vehicles. Kindly apply the same rules and save the residents of this vicinity plz.

    Charan, Mangaluru,
Parking vehicle just for a couple hours during off peak time and that too once in a week disturbs you. I find your comment bit sneaky and you know why. I wonder you have to say to the nuisance of traffic on Carstreet/Venkatraman Temple stretch which get clogged always.

Would it solve the traffic problem by Locking and Towing the vehicles?????? Is there a single public car parking building in the city (excluding CC). Can solve 50% parking problems if authorities build a mega multi-story car parking building at Hampankatta's old bus stand . MCC and Police know, only to take action but WITHOUT solution!!!!!

What about cars parked around Unity Hospital, in Vas Lane and by-lanes? Residents are having to undergo utter nuisance in this area because of parking of vehicles by influential people.
Now dont implement one way as universal solution for all problems. Instead, petrol the area on 24 hrs basis and remove all 4 wheelsers and also 2 wheelers who think that they are excused. In fact 2 wheelers have no sense that they cause major nuisance.
On main Falnir road, many of the new building owners have put boards like parking for customers only. They have no right to do this on the parking space belonging to Corporation and the space given up as set off as per MUDA rules. No gardens should be allowed on such space just to retain their right. Remove such boards and gardens and book the watchman who objects to parking.
Parking on Fridays around Vas Lane should be strictly monitored.

According to Mangalore City Corporation Bye-laws, every building should have adequate parking place for the owners as well as for their clients. Places include marriage halls, commercial buildings, religious places, residences. Vehicles should not be parked on the road or obstructing residences. The traffic police has to be strict in collecting fines from vehicles parked in a haphazard manner. Ideally the vehicles should be towed away, fines can be collected under section 122 of the Motor Vehicles Act and also under Indian Penal Code sections 339, 263 and 340. The notices to collect fine should be sent by Registered Post so that people don't say that we have not received the notice. If the fines are not paid up, charge sheet should be filed. Just like other cities, traffic can improve in Mangalore too, if the Mangalore City Corporation and Traffic Police work together and come down heavily on illegal constructions as well as traffic violators. As I have always suggested earlier, a Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) eg. metro can solve most of the traffic problems of Namma Mangaluru.

Better late than never, good to see the cops have realised this issue. There are several hospitals too (*in Kadri area specially) who do not have parking & block the roads by parking on either side of the roads. Sadly there are no parking boards installed there & cars park just below it.
