Udupi, Jul 26: Digital video recorders (DVR) which had gone missing from Shiroor base Math at Shiroor, which had gone mysteriously missing after the unnatural death of the Math head, were recovered from River Swarna flowing by the side of the Math on Wednesday July 25.
The police investigation was crippled by the fact that the DVRs of the Math were not available. The DVRs were recovered with the help of metal detectors and expert divers. By getting access to the contents of the DVRs, the police hope to find out whether people close to the Swamiji had tossed the DVRs into the river to conceal the activities of the Swamiji, or by those who caused the death of the Swamiji to hide their wrongdoings.
It is said that after the death of the Swamiji on July 19, the police had questioned the staff of the Math about the absence of DVRs. The police were told that two young men who arrived in a car on the night of January 18 had taken away some items from the bedroom of the Swamiji. The men involved with the incident were questioned and they confessed having thrown the DVRs into the river, it is said.
It is also said that a person identified as Iqbal, who helped a lady who was said to be close to Shiroor Swamiji, to escape to Mumbai has been arrested. It is said that the lady used his car to flee. Reportedly, Iqbal came in contact with the husband of this woman when working in Dubai sometime back.
As the DVRs are wet and lot of waste and mud have gone into them, it might take a few days to recover their contents, it is said. The police hope to get all the facts right like activities which were happening in the Math like consumption of liquor, visit of women, feeding of poison etc by matching the contents of the DVRs with post mortem and forensic science laboratory reports.
