Bengaluru: 50 cases against traders for not giving benefit of reduced GST rates to customers

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 30: Department of Legal Metrology from the state has registered 50 cases against traders and business persons who have not transferred the benefits of reduced GST on the selected products that were announced in the 28th council meeting of GST.

Ten teams of the department conducted special operations on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 and verified details in 196 business establishments and registered the cases.

In the recently held GST council meeting, sanitary napkins were kept out of the tax bracket. The GST rate of selected perfumes, toilet cleaning aids and electronic goods were reduced from 28% to 18%. However, during the operation, it has come to light that the traders are selling the said goods under the old tax margin. Most of the cases were registered in this regard. The department is going to impose fine on all the erring traders.

This operation was conducted to assess whether the final consumer is getting the benefits of the reduced GST. According to P R Shivaprasad, Controller of Legal Metrology Department, these surprise operations will be conducted in coming days also.

    playing to the gallery.
how can prices be slashed on products that are produced before hand and on shelf/godown. Singapore has plans to revise GST from 2022. which will be implemented from 2025.
that's 3 years advance planning (2018 to 2022) for GST which will be implemented another 3 years later (2022-2025).

    Refrigerator was taxed at 28%
Suppose a refrigerator mrp is 20000 and was billed to the retailer at 18000. Gst input he received from company at 28% is 4375.
Now after rate changed to 18 % if he sells it at 20000 he will have to charge gst of rs 2813.
Hence the retailer is earning excess income of 1562 as gst input.
Basically govt is saying the shop owner to reduce 1500 and sell the refrigerator at 18500 to customers.
    Isn't the govt reasonable?

First of all government makes it complicated for the traders by increasing St rates and reducing them at their own whims and fancies...and as rightfully said the ultimate sufferer is the consumer and more aptly general public....here for all discrepancy the ultimate sufferer is public n can do nothing but suffer
