    We Indians have no clue on safety standards. Seatbelts and helmets are not for safety but just to avoid police penalties which are peanuts and no body really cares when they have to pay just Rs. 100..

    I have pointed this out before and written to the DC as well as Police Commissioner in the December 2015 as road barricades are death traps. Had informed them that the department installing the barricades needs to:
    1. Warn road user of the barricade ahead clearly and sufficiently in advance,2. Provide safe and clearly marked lanes for guiding users,
    3. where works are being carried out, provide safe and clearly marked buffer and work zones,
    4. Provide adequate measures that control driver behaviour through construction zones, and
    5. Have a Traffic Control Plan in place
    Failure to warn motorists or any road user will make the concerned deparment/official liable for prosecution as well as compensatory claims for damages from injury or death.

    All warning signs need to conspicuous to attract attention of the drivers & should be legible from sufficiently far away to be read without diverting the line of sight through too great an angle; and placed such that they are not obscured by other objects or vegetation & no clustering has taken place;

    Road barricades need to have warning signs installed several meters from the barricade at distances depending on the speed limit on the particular road. In general the distance is 480 metres where the speed limit is 80-90 kmph, 400 metres where the speed limit is 70 kmph, 320 metres where the speed limit is 60 kmph, 240 metres where the speed limit is 50 kmph and 120 metres where the speed limit is less than 40 kmph. Where the distance is more than 240 meters a second warning sign should be placed 120 metres before the barricade or if there is an intersecting road within 120 meters.

    In addition to serve as a warning to motorists at night each barricade needs to have 1 hazard warning amber or red blinker lights. Personnel manning the barricades handling should wear reflective vests.

    Sadly, thanks to their callous attitudes, no action has been taken to date and injury & death due to unscientifically placed barricades!!!

    Give a vehicle to someone under the age of 25, and the vehicle instantly falls in love with something by the side of the road...

    @Sunny d souza ,marnemikatte mangalore, RIP:to the deceased.We dont know whether it is rash driving or had no control over the bike ,on a rainy day and he was too tired may be.Let us not comment without knowing.He is no more now ,so doesnt make any difference.Quite possible ,on rainy days ,wet roads so to say Aqua planning are very dangerous to bikes.bad roads,no proper lights etc ,and road barricade,something went wrong.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.
