Mumbai, Oct 18: Bollywood is ready with Rs 80 crore bid this diwali at the box-office. Yes, the festive season will see some major big budget movies.
Madhur Bhandarkar , who is famous for making movies in nominal budget, is ready with his first big budget movie Fashion, which is made on the budget of Rs 25 crore. The next to join is multistarrer Golmaal Returns with Rs 40 crore budget and last in the pipeline is Rs 15 crore movie EMI , starring Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal.
Every year the trend is the same. Diwali brings lot of big banner movies for the audiences. Last year it was Saawariya and Om Shanti Om . Shahrukh Khan , in order to take advantage of Diwali week, released ‘Om Shanti Om’ coinciding with ‘Saawariya’ and promoted his film so fiercely that it drew condemnation from Sanjay Leela Bhansali .
And what is noteworthy is the fact that all three movies are releasing on Wednesday instead of Friday. And Wednesday is the very next day of Diwali that is 29th October.
Very surprisingly, Yashraj Films is not releasing their Roadside Romeo that week. It is releasing on the 24th of October. And Yashraj released many of his top-grossers around Diwali – Veer Zaara, Mohabbatein and Dil To Pagal Hai had hit the theatres on Diwali time.
Even Samir Karnik’s Heroes will hit the theatres on October 24.
But this kind of situation is dangerous for Bollywood. The market analysts believe that such a situation creates problem for the distributors. They end up fighting for getting cinema halls to do better business and trade gets affected. The movie’s success depends on the power to attract cine-goers in hordes which could be better, if they release with less competition.
Whatever be the case, we have three different lavish movies to catch on. That’s quite a Diwali Dhamaka.
