New Delhi, Aug 30 (IT): Congress IT chief has once again hit back at critics of party president Rahul Gandhi, who raised eyebrows when he compared the Islamic organisation Muslim Brotherhood to right-wing Indian organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Dal (RSS).
Spandana tweeted a graphic which compared the similarities between the two organisations, such as the time of their formation, their purported purpose and the role the two have played in their respective regions. The graphic also says the two organisations were outlawed because of their involvement in the assassinations of national leaders.
The graphic goes on to say that both had used popular social movements as springboards to catapult their leaders into the government.
In 2011, former Egypt president Mohamed Morsi came to power after the Arab Spring revolution. Spandana has compared it to the anti-corruption movement led by social activist Anna Hazare which she says allowed Narendra Modi to become prime minister.
Spandana's tweet has come in defence of Rahul Gandhi's statement equating the RSS to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Speaking at an event at the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) in London on August 24, Gandhi had said "The RSS is trying to change the nature of India. There is no other organisation in India that wants to capture India's institutions... What we are dealing with is a completely new idea. It's an old idea being reborn. It is similar to the idea that exists in the Arab world of the Muslim Brotherhood. The idea is that one ideology should run through every institution and one idea should crush all other ideas,"
He had garnered criticism for his comment with the BJP and RSS calling him immature.
The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Islamist group that was formed in 1928 that describes its principle as the introduction of the Islamic Sharia as "the basis for controlling the affairs of state and society".
