There was a complaint that the former state Bajarang Dal convener Mahendra Kumar was also using mobile phones from inside the sub-jail. Attacks on prisoners belonging to the minority community has been a common occurence in the said jail of late.
In a recent incident, two Muslim youth were badly beaten up in the sub jail on Thursday October 30. After similar incidents occured in the jail on a regular basis, the police authorities and the revenue department took up a joint operation in the jail on Saturday.
After the search operation concluded, superintendent of police(SP) Sateesh Kumar informed the media, that the department has been successful in seizing hemp, mobile phones, SIM cards, knives and rods that are used as weapons. A detailed report will be submitted to the district administration, based on today's findings, he added.
The district administration will hand over the report to the government and the government will take action against the erring jail authorities, who are found guilty of promoting illegal activities in the jail, the SP said.
It may be noted, that the search operation was conducted a few hours after the release of former state Bajarang Dal convener Mahendra Kumar.
