Mangalore: Private Bus - Car Collision Leaves Five Dead

Panambur Accident: 'He Called Mom before God Called Him'

by Melka Miyar
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 3: It was a sad Monday morning for many, since after the week-end it was a day for work, while a few others were on their way to office. Amidst these five friends from different parts of Mangalore were on their way back home after the leisure they spent in Goa for the last couple of days.

But the entire district received the shocking news, first the death of these three and eventually other two who injured in the accident at Panambur on Monday November 3 morning.

The tragic accident on the highway claimed five lives leaving thousands of their family members and well-wishers in great shock and deep sorrow.

(L to R) Shameer, Vicky, Lionel, Anwar

Within minutes after flashing the news on the website, daijiworld.com Mangalore office started receiving calls regarding the identity of the deceased.

Mohammed Nizar, a regular reader of Daijiworld.com from Dubai and close friend of one of the victims Vicky spoke to Daijiworld office in Mangalore and said, "Last night Vicky (Vikram) was chatting with me from Goa on Google chat, and I could not accept the tragic news of his death this morning." He shared this photograph of four which they took just two days before in Goa and Vicky posted them on the blog.

Vikram (23), a resident of Samethadka in Puttur, was in search of a job since the last few days. Earlier, he worked for Reliance Broadband Company and later, for HDFC Insurance Company in Puttur. His father died a few years ago and his mother is a government employee. He is survived by an elder brother also. One of his neighbourers said that Vikram used to be always friendly with everyone. Everyone who knew him  used to love his company. But God chose to snuff out his life at such an early age.

Shameer, resident of Neerakani in Vittal, had been to the city to write an examination. His parents are in Dubai and Shameer was also working there. He joined his old classmates to spend his leisure time in their company. He is the third among the four children of Ahmed, say his neighbourers in Vittal.

Lionel Michael Noronha (22), another victim is a resident of Jeppu. He called his mom at 6 am on Monday November 3 and said that he was on his way back to the city. But God's call was waiting for him at Panambur, as he died there in a tragic accident, with his four friends, only a few minutes away from his home. He and his ill-fated friends were returning after undertaking a tour of Goa.

Lionel is a BCA graduate and the only son of Philip Liguory and Flora Noronha. He had been to Goa on Friday October 31 with his old college mates. Incidentally, this was his first-ever long trip anywhere. His parents never sent him to any far-off places, as they were afraid of accidents. Most probably, some astrologer must have told them that travel in vehicles can endanger him, opine his neighbours.

He was working in a tours and travels agency in Falnir since the last few months. Moreover, he kept his passport and four-wheeler driving licence ready, as he had tall dreams for the future. But the fatal accident shattered all his dreams and those of his parents.

Preetham

Preetham (26) hailing from Puttur was a resident of Amulya Apartments in Mannagudda here was a former student of Shri Devi College. He was a bright student and had done his BBM from St Philomena's College Puttur from 2000-03 batch. He was the only son of his parents. He was working for Yes Bank for the last 6 months. Though earlier it was reported that it the ill-fated were travelling in an Indica car, now it has been established that they were travelling in a 'Ford Ikon' car which Preetham had bought only 10 days ago.

The accident occurred at Panambur on Monday November 3, between a bus speeding towards Udupi from Bangalore and the car which was coming to the city from Goa. As reported earlier the accident claimed a total of five lives, including Preetham and Anwar. All of them had studied together in a college in the city and had their own plans for the future. But they are now just memories for their parents, relatives and friends.

The roads here have the dubious distinction of claiming the lives of people now and then. No one knows as to why some things keep happening on this road. Earlier, the iron-ore-laden trucks used to behave like the agents of death. But they are not plying on the roads at present, as there is no demand for the iron ore. It is sad that the buses are replacing the iron ore trucks as the new agents of death.

Mangalore: Private Bus - Indigo Car Collision Leaves Five Dead

Updated at 1 pm IST

The deceased have been identified as Sameer and Anwar from Neerakani near Vittal, Vikram Bhat, Preetham from Darbe near Puttur and Lionel Micheal Noronha from Jeppu in the city . All of them had gone to Goa for a picnic and were on their way back home when the accident occured. The car was hired from Madikeri. Sameer had come home from Dubai on holidays only a couple of days ago.

Mangalore, Nov 3: The rash driving of the private buses which has been in the news regularly for wrong reasons in the twin-districts, has claimed three lives on Monday November 3. In a terrible accident that occured at Panambur near the beach road on the  the city outskirts at around 7.30 am on Monday November 3 between a private bus and an Indigo car, three occupants of the car met a gory death.

An Indigo car bearing Madikeri registration, was moving towards the city on the left side of the road, when tragedy struck. An private bus speeding towards Udupi dangerously swerved to extrene  right and crushed the car under it. As a result, the three persons travelling in the car, died on the spot while two more were admitted to A J Hospital with serious injuries.

The car was badly mangled in the accident and got stuck under the bus because of the impact of the accident. Fire tenders were summoned to separate the two vehicles. Traffic was blocked at the scene of the accident for about an hour.

Highway widening work is on between Suratkal and Bantwal and the entire stretch of the road is full of deviations, debris, half-completed stretches etc. Hence, the drivers need to navigate their vehicles carefully on this stretch of the road. Prima facie, the driver of the bus was careless in handling his vehicle, going by the scene of the accident. There have been several complaints about the rash and negligent of buses on the highway and reckless drivers competing with other buses have been posing danger to the road users, particularly on the national highway between Udupi and Mangalore.

The car is an Ikon.If we look at the pictures ,the bus is on the wrong side of the road inspite of there being a divider!! The driver shouldnt be spared at all. SAD THAT THE PASSENGERS ALSO TURN A BLIND EYE TO THIS!!!! I remember slapping a bus driver driving in the wrong direction on this same stretch .

I was driving from Mumbai to Mangalore when i see this bus with headlights on and coming from the wrong side to avoid a jam.I did teach him a lesson. IF THERE ARE INCIDENTS WHERE PEOPLE TAKE IT ON THEMSELVES TO TEACH THESE DRIVERS A LESSON,THINGS WILL AUTOMATICALLY FALL IN PLACE. Sad that 5 lives were gone

Sad for the valuable lives lost due to arrogancy of invaluable drivers who consider earning few extra bucks by speeding faster, they forget this very little buck craziness will one day be the cause for thier own deaths too and their families will be left in agony...Whats wrong mangalore people, have all lost their guts to stand up against these goons called bus drivers(yamraj agents)..

Wake up before some one else looses someone of thier own same way...first try ahimsha if not them pure violence as last resort..

Mangalore Roads are termed as ROADS TO HELL. Have you ever tried walking on Mangalore roads or travelled in a Private Bus, especially the road from Kankanady to BC Road. These Bus drivers think they are the Kings of the road and race among themselves and drive as if they are driving on a F1 Circuit.

The roads are so much of an International standard that hardly two buses can move freely at that speed. Its time for the Government or people to do something on this rather than damaging or burning churches. Otherwise often families would keep loosing their loved ones. Hail Mangaluru.

It's a tragedy indeed. future is dark for the five families. while the blame mostly lies with the buse plying without care the following issues need to be addressed. 1. The driving skills of the car occupants, saying the car is newly purchased. 2.Most accidents happen in the wee hours involving long distance overnight commuters. The fact that the team drove straight from Goa overnight would have set in the fatigue and misjudgements. 3. whether they were wearing seat belts 4.Last, was there any trace of alcohol. It is unfortunate that the above points are very cruel at this point, but we need to explore all the facts before judging..

To all those who Miss them: Life is lonely without friends like you. You taught to live a short but complete life following the words of God. There is no one to blame for such deeds. Your life was written short in heaven but complete. Blessed are those who come together, stay together, go to heaven togher. Most of us come alone and go alone from this world taking nothing with us, but they proved us that frindship never lasts until death, but lasts forever , even defeating death.  God also could not do them apart.

To the MLA's(who understand English Please Read) There are accidents every year. Its not because only of the roads or Rash Driving but because of you who take un important topic into the legislature eg. changing the name of places eg. Banglore etc. which basically never takes the lives of people. We elect you so that we can survive instead you are making our lives insecured. Hope people with brains with minimum Qualification Of Degree from reputed Pvt Collages stand for elections, so that we can vote for them for a good cause.

I have a best example to this on how our RTO issues permits really rediculous. A bus which starts at 2.30 p.m. at Statebank will reach kinnigoli 4.00 p.m. via kateel & the other bus which is following this starts at 2.45 p.m. & should reach kinnigoli at 3.50 p.m. (same distance, same route)in order to pick passengers & to proceed towards Belman.

So what is the logic here??? It's no fault of the drivers, it's clearly our RTO & the influence from politicians which spoiled the image of drivers. We should not blame drivers, conductors as they are earning their daily bread by braving their life.

I think a four lane road, two lane on either side will minimise head on collisions. For the highway like Udupi- Mangalore and the magnitude of traffic, we deserve better roads. Our politicians and political system which rules contracting and dirty politics is root cause of hinderence. Poor and back ward countiies like Ethiopia, Uganda and so on has better roads than we have for lesser population and lesser road tax revenue, it is a puzzle why can not we have better roads.

Until it happens, sorrows like this may be unavoidable. PWD and its way of working with political interference, bribery lobby, protests, road encrochment...less said the better.

It is sad to see young lives are taken away. Sad dismiss of our dear once. Most of all people blame GOD for this act. But unfortunate when good happen no one Remembers HIM. Surely God is not the author of this death. Bible speaks Two Powers are working on this world John gospel 10 chapter 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. . We all can understand by this word (light) there is thief who kills family, not the GOD, He is Our heavenly loving father, He loves u all.

To the instigators of communal violence in Mangalore or anywhere in the world, take a look at these young friends of different faiths, together in life and also in death. This is the general trend in Mangalore, even though we belong to different faiths, all are friendly to each other.

Up untill now though, when we have cowards trying to create unrest by inciting religious differences. My heartfelt sympathies to all the family members of these wonderful young boys whose death has shown the unity of people of different faiths in Mangalore.

I am sorry for those who lost their lives and condole their family members. However I do not understand why such accidents are keep happenning. Is it because our roads are not worthy for the safe driving or Faulty vehicles or Drivers are not matured enough to drive safely.

I have a feeling we are lack of all these three. I understand accidents do happen but it is in our hands to minimise the accidents. I recommend to make mental and maturity test of the applicant together with other tests before issuing the licence and NO license to be issued just because one knows to move the vehicle.

I agree with what you say but there is something lacking in the system. Suppose all the powers are given to these constables or cops, then two things possible, either they use it for good or misuse it.If they use it for good, its good but if they misuse it, then it is fatal.Sometime back there was news that our district is going to install GPRS, this would in some way keep track of these reckless driving, if and only if it is in good hands.

Any news on the driver? The law should not let this driver go, and should be sentenced to jail for a minimum of 50 yrs. 10 yrs for each killed. This will serve as a good precedence for all drivers who are so negligent about other's lives

It must be said that the people of the twin districts have never been united or serious in fighting against rash driving . Look around you: Does any one in public buses 9 eg the EXPRESS ones) care enough to go to the Driver (directly or through the Conductor) to tell him not to drive rashly overtake on bridges (narrow) and just around road bends, and the like ? Boisterous ones among us get greatly tickled and giggle and scream for kicks instead. Some of our Highways especially NH-17 ranked shamefully among the worlds most dangerous perhaps the worst.

BAN PRIVATE BUSES. theyve been the root cause of so many accidents. they have zero discipline on the roads, zero co-operation, they overspeed, they are not courteous, they try and bully everyone, pushes everyone to the sidelines, etc. I'm sick and tired of these private buses playing "games" on the highways.

Udupi-manipal corridor is the worst of the lot. its high time we compiled a list of exceeses committed by them - get them banned summarily. the government can replace them anyday. We have the ksrtc - which works fairly efficiently. Plenty of locals will get work there - the job creation will be much more because - one umbrella organization can take care of sparse routes too - something which private buses dont do - they refuse to go to sparsely populated routes.

Every so often this Manjunath buses are involved in accidents. It is time for some able person to take action against this company. RTO is the big culprit in these accidents. First of all these buses are tall by size. Secondly these buses carry lot of goods on the top which is illegal according to RTO official,as told by Inspector. Third there are trees along the road with low branches.

Already the bus is way high with luggage, driver tries to avoid brushing the branches, turns to wrong lane. Also the driver is sleepy and tired. wants to rush to sleep. End result is Deaths of innocence people. How many more deaths we need to control these bus drivers. When Officials cannot handle bus drivers, then people will control them. Time is not very far.

I do not think the RTO needs to be blamed in this case, becuase it was a Bangalore route bus. I do agree the it is big mistake by RTO to issue permits to private busses as if they are giving away as free passes for some function.

I work in Mangalore and stay in Nitte, so I have seen this kind of reckless driving daily. I was also a part of the tragic incident which happened on September 5, 2008 when the bus driver of private bus from Karkala  lost control over the vehicle. No one took note of it. Many suffered injuries which can not be cured for life, but not even a single person from the bus company came to see the injured in hospital,. We need to all stand together and fight. Today they lost their lives, tomorrow it might be our turn..

There are so many people who have lost their lives, Victim Anwar my younger brother has lost his lives in this accident. He was the only son to his parents, How will I console my parents? These killers come out by paying money and selfish bus owners also help them.

Why are Mangloreans not on roads protesting against such drivers? why not a mangalore bandh?

Road Accidents like terrorism has become a world problem, but I guess India and Saudi Arabia top the list of accident fatalities. Though speed by itself is not a cause of accident, speeding coupled with driver errors, road conditions and vehicle conditions is a major cause of most of the fatal accidents. Though everyone wants the accidents to stop there is no collective response from the public for its prevention.

As Hema mentioned in her comments the other passengers did not support her calls of protest against speeding shows the lack of concern for safety in general. Sometime back some states introduced speed governers for vehicles which was a perfect step towards accident prevention, but there was no public support and because of the agitation by the truck drivers against this rule, this law is on hold or scrapped altogether. Unless the general public will call on the RTO and support the RTO to introduce speed governors, as mentioned by Vincy as well, with immidiate effect, on public and private transport, specially buses/trucks/vans and report to the RTO if violation is found, no other measure of prevention will yeild any note worthy results.

Meanwhile the RTO should be pressurised to send letters of concern to all bus operators to instruct their drivers against speeding and to cancell their licence in case of violation But the main question is who or which organisation will take the lead to go ahead on this matter

I just visited Mlore a week back. Iam the neighbour of Late.Lionel Noronha. When I saw the condition of roads in Mlore its pathetic there are no words to describe. I personally have travelled to Manipal on last Saturday (25th Oct'08)and it took 2.5 hrs to reach. I request the Transport Minister of Karnataka to take some kind of initiative so that in future this may not happen with anyone.(Hope the Mangaloreans agree with especially the strecth from Udupi till Kundapura) Mlore is getting crowded day by day and I hope that the Govt realises ASAP to avoid all these kinds of accidents/incidents. I have been to different places in India but I have always seen that there are Govt buses operating, Mlore is the only place where the Govt has allowed to run private buses which leads to all these kinds of accidents. Is there any problem in running BMTC buses in Mlore is my question to the Transport Minister??

I am really amazed to see that no media is asking the authorities about the action taken against the Criminal Driver who killed 5 youngsters at one go and the bus-owner who has employed such a person as driver without any training on basic work-ethics &respect for road rules & right odf way. How can the bus drag the car so long after hitting? B'coz it was reckless driving. The police/RTO also to be blamed for not taking tough actions in similar such fatal accidents.

Why not charge the driver in the same way as that of the infamous BMW case of Delhi? Why not charge him additionally for running away from the bus & spot, instead of helping the victims? The main problem is that the owner knows very well that his bus is insured & he would get compensation from claim & meagre [in India] 3rd party liability is also covered. Plus the driver knows very well that he would come out on bail, as the Indian Law enforcemnts are not strict and the worst come worse, the owner would bribe the brake inspector of the RTO & make as a brake-fail case !

I strongly recommend that DK & Udupi MEDIA has to take such road accident cases seriously & grill the Police, RTO & the DC on daily basis. Put up the pictures of both mafia owner & the criminal driver. None of these victims are my friends or relatives, but my prayers goes for their souls to rest in peace. I feel that in terms of Road accidents & Safety, the most educated undivided DK district people are least civic sensed & organised & always bow to the pvt transport mafia lobby.

Really tragic ! Heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family. May God save all of us from such gruelling tragedies. Officials, please open your eyes...

*** Rash & Reckless driving without any fear of punishment

*** Lack of Railway shuttle services between Udupi & Kundapur.. obviously due to the palms of officials being greased by the Bus Lobby

*** Unscientific way of carrying out road repairs .. where there was two clear separate roads, which could have been repaired in turns

*** Illogical allotment of permits and fixation of timings ... every 2 minutes there is a bus between Mangalore & Udupi and the timing is such that they would not able to accomplish even if the road is like a runway, leave alone the present condition of the roads... are the main reasons

*** I am sure nothing is going to change ...this driver also will escape punishment... our memories are too short.. till we soon see life of another Preetham or Lionel cut short by such tragedy

This is very distturbing. May the victims' souls rest in peace & God give strength to their family. The no of people dying in the accidents in the Mangalore - Kundpur stretch of NH is definitely more than 200 per year. While we blame the speeding buses, the state of the infrastructure is another important reason. A journey from bengalooru to Udupi takes easily 12-15 hrs these days & the person will be half dead at the end of it. There does not seem to be any value for human hours wasted & the fatigue. when will the state of Karnataka get its share of infratructure so we can travel on these roads without any fear of life? They started the 4-way highway construction in Mangalore and it does not look like it will complete in another 10 years. There is Last but not least are Bellary Reddy's lorrys. when will they stop damaging our roads & killing people

First of all my condolences to the family and I pray to god to give them enough strength to bear this loss.

Secondly this is a sad reflection of the crumbling infrastructure in India and also the corruption that exists in the police force and RTO.This is not a DK or a Mangalore phenomenon but an all India one.Licences are issued without proper checks, people are overworked and exploited and there is a definite lack of awareness on safety.

I always thought this stretch was a four lane road seperated by a median! The three E'S as I have always stressed in my previous posts is sadly lacking. Engineering Education Enforcement. Over that the corruption adds on to it to make it a lethal combination.

So many precious young lives are lost, when will the government wake up ? Please, MPs and MLAs, do your best to invest funds for widening roads and installing dividers on the national highway. Installing dividers would have avoided a head-on collision such as these. Also, please lobby for introduction of a Metro train between Mangalore and Udupi, which can keep a lot of traffic off-roads.

I dont think we can control these erring drivers. Not in this case.. They are driven by the schedules they are given...I understand that there are some buses which have timings which are possible to keep only if the bus travels without a stop..I have given up hope before our corrupt RTO, Police and other sections of the 'System'. Only we can help ourselves..By protesting every case of breaking rules...If we are on the bus which is breaking speed limits and rules people inside the bus must speak up. However, whenever I have done so in the past, I have unfortunately received not so enthusing responses from my co-passengers... I can see only one way out..Put the buses to loss..By shooting at one of the back tyres with a licensed pistol...I am not a terrorist ..But that is the only language people seem to understand (Especially since we cannot speak to the Buswallahs without a strong arm/violence)

Thru the years - I have witnessed many accidents in and around Udupi and Mangalore. Drunken driving, Reckless Driving, Speeding, BUT HIGH SPEED OVERTAKING takes the cake. Needless to confirm that our roads have never met any standards, be it in quality or size. Human error is the only cause. Therefore, such negligent and careless drivers must be hanged - especially of our private buses and goods transporters - who average the most in road accidents. Policing won't help because India's legal system is rotten to the core and it stinks. Better sense and respect from drivers of all vehicles for all drivers, pedestrains, and even stray cows, is the only key to minimize and contain such ghastly accidents and unnecessary loss of lives. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

If I am talking about the particular bus involved in the accident, there is going to be a long list of events which contributes to this accident directly & indirectly. This bus is coming from bangalore bound towards Udupi or Manipal via Mangalore. First of all most of the buses coming from bangalore have never for once started journey of time. Why? Because of numerous quanity of goods that has to be loaded.

Second factor is that the roads between Bangalore and Mangalore is so pathetic it is tough even to ride horse back.Third, the trucks that ply at night which actually must not be plying at nights. These are the main factors which delays a bus from reaching here on time. As a regular traveller I have seen that the pressure is always on the drivers also at times because of some passengers who vent thier anger on the driver for the delay. However this does not justify the drivers that become a reason for killing people. The reason why I stress this point is that we must get rid of the main factors that cause the drivers feel pressurised. The driver of this bus has no excuse for what has happened because of him, but its at the same time important to know that the government authorities and the bus owners are also equally responsible for this accident.

I have seen a few people suggest cancelling private buses and asking the KSRTC to ply these routes. That according to me will be a big mistake since they are equally ignorant people when they are in uniforms. They lack the basic respect for human lives too, if we remember the recent accident that happened in Shiradi ghat was caused by a KSRTC. 90% of the blocks in Shiradi ghat is caused by KSRTC buses because they always want to be the first one to get of the block. The solutions does not lie with giving or not giving licences or permits. The solutions lies in a very simple method, which is to set the system we have in place right.

Let the authorities implement the rules they have in place strictly. We recently came to know that the police in Mangalore have aquired a laser gun that checks overspeeding vehicles. Whats the use having it inside a city where vehicles can barely run 30 kms max per hour. Its better to take the same to the highways. There are many steps I am sure the authorities have up thier sleeves to stop vehicular crime. But the only thing they lack is the will to do it. Afterall its a tough job since implementing the rules have two hurdles.

Will and lot of red tapism. Wakeup transport Minister.Stop flying in a helicopter instead drive your car and you will surely understand your job description.

I think there is something that every single person can do to prevent such accidents from happening again and again. It is the passengers in the buses who can raise their voices and see to it that the drivers don't drive rashly. Unfortunately few people care enough to do so. I happened to be on a Manipal-Mangalore Express bus once and when I protested against the rash manner of driving, I was apalled to notice that there wasn't a single person who spoke up along with me.

On the contrary there was this sheepish looking fellow who tried to defend the driver. He was silenced when I asked him if he didn't have anyone waiting for him at home.As long as people have the same kind of attitude we will see more of such accidents. The RTO and all the others who need to take action will not do anything. Why should they when we don't care?

It is a total chaos. Nobody follows the traffice rules. No sign boards to alert the drivers on the cross roads to alert the drivers. It is high time that, RTO officials wake from their slumber and do some soothening act. There should be a tolerance limit for the honking business. The Bus drivers honk so badly that, the speeding drivers have a nervous time controlling steering. My freind once complained that, while driving, due this honking, his heart came into his mouth. Beware of this drivers... they so special... they are good for honking. A Word of advice to the two wheeler drivers - Please do not drive on the right hand side, you are always at high risk.

First of all I pay my respect to the people who lost their life in a tragic accident and hearty condolences to their families. It is sad to see public paying their price in blood for the government’s negligence in maintaining and building up proper road networks. It is not today’s conflict it is decades old. We are only looking up to the moon and dance for the joy but we are forgotten the foundation where we are standing. We import expensive luxury cars to India but our roads are suitable for only SUV’s.

Our roads are telling the real story of India and driving on Indian roads is an adventure. We inaugurated the Bangalore international air port before constructing the road (it was a long drive about 30kilometers) and it has become an international joke. Our road accidents are causing greater deaths than terrorism. Our road authority (RTO) is issuing licenses before proper driving tests due to that most of our drivers are reckless drivers. Our politicians did not put their heart and mind where it is really required.

Metro train between Udupi and M'lore would ne best solution. Due to heavy corruption, nothing will change. Govt officials have to cover thier butt as they have paid money to get thier jobs. Hence, they may have to issue driving permits or bus permits to survive. I'd immagine kind of driving rules followed specilly in India. No one would understand 'yield to pedestrain' as bus drivers thinks he is king or he owns road because he pays for permit or taxes so on... but fails to realize that moeny is collected from common man. Even some of the bus owners consider themselves so called 'bus dhanikulu" Unless some drastic changes not brought to traffic control nothing will change. Question is whom to educate - authorities or public ? With the kind of recent police attitude (govt servants ) we could draw conclusion what could be also other areas of govt depts? Anyway, quesiton remains unanswered.

How many more accidents & deaths by rash driving by DK/Udupi Pvt Bus/Trucks are needed for the govt to wake up & stop the menace created by pvt. transporters mafia? All these are avoidable accidents/incidents. The only solution is to amend our IPC to award few years of jail-term punishment for the Heavy Vehicle drivers depending on the amount of rashness & to also award a good compensation of atleast Rs.50 lakhs on death to the victim's family taken from these blood-sucking pvt. HMV owners [greedy mafia]. These are in line with the "Blood-money" concept prevalent in Gulf countries. Let's emulate few good laws from other countries, instead of just letting off these rash drivers & their owners with very very light punishment to save hapless victims & their families. The irony is all of us including the passengers in the bus just watch as if it's normal for the bus to overspeed and honk unnecessarily. The minute the bus meets with an accident the driver and conductor abscond instantly. More sad the bus driver's care a damn even for the traffic constables !!!! All the passengers in the bus should co-operate and warn the driver in case of rash driving thereby ensuring their's and others lives too are safe.........

All over India accidents has become a daily news matter. No government is serious in expanding roads and providing dividers between roads. Bus speeding is a regular practice to maintain minimum trips and to compete with other buses. The State Government should implement speed control measures by installing speed governors to all buses. We call our roads as highways but they are not fit to be called so. Unless there is divider between the roads why we call it as highway. These ministers should force to visit abroad on their own ticket before taking up as road and transport ministers.
