Quota Raj - Maharashtra Reserves 80 pc Jobs for Locals

PTI

Mumbai, Nov 18: In an apparent bid to hijack MNS chief Raj Thackeray's agenda, Maharashtra government on Monday decided to reserve 80 per cent of jobs to locals in state industries.

"Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had been following up the issue for a long time. The Industries, Energy and Labour department took a decision for setting aside 80 percent jobs to the locals", an official statement said.

Anyone who has been residing for over 15 years in the state would be considered as local, the statement said.

The Government has also decided to set up a committee at state and district level to ensure implementation of the decision, it said.

The panel would meet at least three times a year and would review status of the decision. It would also suggest measures to provide maximum jobs to locals.

A procedure has been fixed to ensure that the officer making the recruitment, should be one knowing Marathi language, the statement said.

The decision provides for reservation of 50 per cent in supervisory category.

If this rule implicated strictly then it could be the downfall of Maharashtra. Maharastrians are one of the laziest workers and involved in strikes etc. which already made many companies either to close down or to move out of Maharashtra. I hope not the Government implicating such rule, hit their own legs with their own axe. Moreover, if Mumbai is developed, it is because of people from other part of the country. And if these people go from there, then future of Mumbai will be bleak.

As a indian citizen, any person opt for job any corner of india. it is his constitutional right. By doing this Desmuk attacked on rights of the people.

If the people of India do not fight for equal rights to work in every corner of the country then soon India will be destroyed by Indians and will become land with many countries fighting many wars for hundreds of boundaries. Hats off to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh of Maharastra for your decision to reserve 80% jobs to Maharastians not because of this decision but because the way you wanted to implement this. No bullet, no violence, no hartal, no property damage but only wise, intelligent decision. The question is whether when this will materialise and put into practice.

Deshmukh is the CM who was thrown out from the CM Chair in his first term for not performing well and Shinde bought in. I can't understand why Sonia choose this person as CM for the second term again. This was surprising. Now see what is happening in Maharashtra ? I am sure Deshmukh will again be the CM for the third term with MNS support.

For power sake Deshmukh will be ready to do anything. Now elections are approaching. What Satya said is correct. Deshmukh will definitely join hands with MNS to form the next Government if Congress does not get majority. Good idea Deshmukh. Deshmukh was sitting and watching the tamasha last month when Kalyan was getting burnt. Raj was arrested only for name sake as an eye wash to fool public. After Sonia asked for a report, Deshmukh had a deal with Raj to put him one night inside so that Deshmukh will be safe and his Chair also will be safe and he did it. It was said for two days he will be out but now even a month is over Raj is out.

Mr. Chief Minister should define locals when he speaks of 80% reservation for locals. Locals should be regardless of caste, religion etc who have been staying in Mumbai for over 15 years. Definitely, there should be a line drawn for eligibility of jobs in mumbai as people from all over the country folks to mumbai thereby, puting a lot of pressure on its infrastructure which is unable to bear the influx. Other states such Bihar, UP, MP should be developed as they are way behind as far as progress goes thanks to the corrupt politician in those states. Illiteracy is one of the common cause of misery in those states.

Maharashtra Government has penchant for springing surprises after surprises. After legalising much hated livein relationships,it has come out with a new step in right direction. I feel reservation of jobs for locals is absolutely neccessary. Every state Government should emulate this step as this would stop people from migrating from one state to another in search of menial jobs. Merit should matter only in cases where knowledge & intelligence is required.

Deshmukh very good decision. You also want to keep your CM Chair and have to live in Mumbai. Now you also have become Raj's Gulam. In the same time you are also a Marathi Manoos. I think Hijadas are better than you. At last you bowed to Raj the Goonda's demand. Shame on you. Better resign Deshmukh. Elections are on the way and so you also need support of Locals to keep your Chair intact. Why 80%, make it 100%.

I think this is a very good move, especially for city like Mumbai. This will force other states like Bihar and UP to create more job oppurtunities in their state. I too believe in giving equal oppurtunity to all, but this step was very much required in controlling the population of mumbai and burden on their infrastructure.

smart move by the state government, by defining LOCALS....as many non maharastrians by faith or religion are locals of the state. I sincerly hope people of the state in general and the country as a whole will benefit by this proposal. Hope and pray this proposal is enacted as a law as soon as possible to avoid chaos and hatred among our citizens.

"Anyone who has been residing for over 15 years in the state would be considered as local" Initially I was fuming but upon reading the above part of the news, I fully agree that the decision is justifiable. We have several non-maharashtrians living there since many years - they should not be deprived of their daily bread overnight replaced by Maharashtrians. MNS who forces localization on outsider-establishstments will have a big blow if this law will be formalised.
