Bangalore, Nov 22: In a development that removed tensions from the minds of the students who have got admissions into the Kasturba Medical College Manipal and Mangalore, the High Court has ratified their admissions into the MBBS courses being run by these colleges during this year.

The future of about 500 medical students who got admissions into the medical colleges run by Kasturba Medical College administration was hanging in balance since the Indian Medical Council (IMC) had declared their admissions as illegal. The present verdict, delivered by a divisional bench of Karnataka High Court, has brought back smiles on the faces of students and their parents.

The Indian Medical Council, through a notice issued to the college, had restricted the intake of the college to just 150, citing lack of basic infrastructure. It had stuck to the stand that the admissions given to other students in the year 2008 can not be regularized, even after the management approached it for the same.

The governing council of the medical college had questioned the decision of the IMC in the state High Court. It had argued, that the warning notice issued by the IMC during the mid-academic year of the students, was not proper and that the step would affect the future of these students. The court has upheld the arguments of the college and directed the IMC to withdraw its notice.

Advocate Ravindranath Kamath, appearing on behalf of the KMC College governing council, assured the divisional bench that the management will develop all the instrastructure facilities as per the specifications of the IMC.
