Bangalore, Dec 10: A milestone in the life of 18-year-old Alexandra was fulfilled when she performed ‘Bharatanatyam Arangetram’ at St Joseph’s Boys High School Auditorium, Museum Road, Bangalore recently. She is the disciple of Bharata Shiraram Guru Padmini Ramachandran, director of Natyapriya, the premier institution for Bharatanatyam.
Programme started with invocation song by Dr Nagaratna, former HoD of Zoology department of Mount Carmel College. This was followed by series of dances, a real feast to the eyes of the audience who enjoyed to the maximum with utmost silence and great wonder.
Dances performed were Mallari, Ganesha Srithi, Shloka , Varnam, Devaranama, Javali, Yesu Padam and Tillana. It was amazing to see this young artist perform tirelessly making everyone happy, happy and happier.
Alexandra began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of six under the guidance of Gurus Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran of Rasika Academy of Performing Arts. After 2 years of break, she joined Shilpa Uttappa’s dance school and was introduced to the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam and performed her gejje pooja under Shilpa’s guidance. She moved on from there to become Guru Padmini Ramachandran’s student.
Coincidentally, Alexandra also started her journey in music by joining the Bangalore School of Music on the same day she started her Bharatanatyam classes. She began by learning both the piano and the recorder and continues playing the recorder with enthusiasm, thanks largely to the encouragement of her music teacher Paulette D'Mello.
She is a first B Com at St Joseph’s College of commerce and the daughter of Dr A A Dass and Josephine Rozario.
The auditorium was packed with family, friends, well-wishers, dance lovers and most of all Sophiates and Josephites who enjoyed every minute of her presence on the stage with great appreciation and were left dumbfounded by her astounding performance.
