Mangalore, Dec 11: The four terror-suspects, who had been arrested from the city and outskirts on October 3 this year in a joint operation launched by the Mumbai and the city policemen, were remanded to 15 days’ police custody on Wednesday December 10.
The suspects, Mohammed Ali from Mukkacheri in Ullal and his son Javed Ali, Naushad from Subhashnagar in the city and Ahmed Bawa from Haleangadi were brought to the city on the night of Tuesday from Bangalore and lodged in the city sub-jail. After they were produced in the third city JMFC Court, they were remanded to police custody as above.
It may be recalled, that the court had, on November 24, refused to entertain the request of the prosecution to hand the suspects over to the police for interrogation. It had opined that the accused were remanded to police custody once in the past and hence there was no reason for prescribing police custody for them again. The policemen had approached the district sessions (additional) court through an appeal against the said order. The sessions court, which took up the appeal on December 8, set aside the earlier order of the lower court and directed for producing the accused in the court before 3 pm on December 10 for procuring their police custody.
As per the said directions, the JMFC court remanded the four to police custody for 15 days. As soon as the court passed the orders, the terror-suspects were taken to Ullal police station for interrogation.
