Udupi, Dec 22: District superintendent of police (SP) here, Laxman Nimbargi, said that a special seminar will be held to spread awareness about the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act among the school children.

A caller during the phone-in programme held here on Friday December 21, referring to incidents of sexual violence, had said that it is better to keep the children informed and to create awareness at a early age among school going children about POCSO act. He suggested to the police department to hold seminars for students studying between sixth and tenth standards. The SP, in response to the suggestion, said that the police department is thinking over it, and especially whether the awareness should be created by way of short film or slides.

A citizen said that two wheelers are being driven too fast by riders without helmets over their heads on Parkala- Manipal and Ambagilu-Manipal roads, causing problems for senior citizens and the weak. A few buses are running without permits. Therefore, special operation should be conducted against them,” suggested a local to the SP. “Street lights do not light up at night on Bhujanga Park, Ajjarkadu.
