Puttur: Man tries to end life by jumping into river, rescued

Puttur, Dec 25: A man jumped into the river from Kumaradhara Bridge at Uppinangady in the taluk on Monday December 24. He was rescued by the police and locals in a joint operation.

The man unexpectedly jumped into the river even as passersby looked on. He has been identified as Shubham (30) from Uttar Pradesh. He was brought out by the police with the support of locals. After providing him first aid, he was led to the police station.

The person looks like mentally unstable. He claimed o belong to Uttar Pradesh, and hat he had been dropped off here several months back by lorry drivers. The police provided him with food and talked to him into shedding the thought of suicide. The police want to provide him suitable treatment and then send him to his native place. They have sought assistance of people from north India living here for contacting Shubham's family members.
