Udupi, Dec 26: The incidents of looting gold and valuables, especially from senior citizens are continuing in the city. On Tuesday, December 25, two senior citizens were cheated and the gold valuables they were wearing were robbed in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, Venkataramana Acharya (68), a resident Puttur in the city was walking towards the Ambagilu Junction at around 8.45 am in order to buy flowers. When he reached the fish market, a guy who approached Acharya in bike and introduced himself as a CBI officer and pointed his finger towards another person standing a little far with his bike parked and said that ‘the officer is calling you’ in Hindi.

He took the gullible Acharya in his bike towards the other person who was standing at a distance. Both the men pretended to frisk Acharya and removed his wrist watch, Rs 1000 in cash from his shirt pocket and the chain which he was wearing on his neck and tied everything in a kerchief and gave the same to Acharya.

When Acharya opened the kerchief, which contained the items after walking a little distance, his chain was missing. When he returned to the spot where he was checked by two men, both were not there. A case in this regard stands registered in the city police station.

The second incident occurred near the Gurukripa Studio which is by the side of Masjid road. Bhaskar Poojary (61), a resident of Matadabettu was waiting for the bus at 9.25 am. A stranger approached him and told in Hindi that he is from the security department and some officers are waiting and took him forcefully in front of SVS bank. There another two men said that they are going to do a security check and asked Bhaskar to give them his gold chain, mobile and watch rolled in kerchief. They took the kerchief and a little later returned the same to Bhaskar When Bhaskar Poojary walked a little ahead and checked the contents of the kerchief, the golden chain was missing.

It may be recalled that just a few days ago, a person who was walking at Manipal was abducted in a van and dropped on roadside after his golden ornaments robbed. In another incident, a person, who was going home after his work, was robbed of his gold chain after he was kicked from behind.

Police are investigating and trying to apprehend the culprits.
