No plans to make Hindi compulsory: Javadekar

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS): Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday countered media reports on government's intention of making Hindi compulsory, saying that no language is being given a compulsory status in the new National Education Policy (NEP).

"The Committee on New Education Policy in its draft report has not recommended making any language compulsory. This clarification is necessitated in the wake of mischievous and misleading report in a section of the media," Javadekar tweeted.

An article in The Indian Express had reported that the government will be making Hindi compulsory for students till Class 8 in the upcoming education policy.

Hindi must make compulsory to all MPs, because otherwise they can't understand what discussion is going on in Parliament. And also they can Express their views.

Hindi can never be made compulsory in India. The southern states, especially TAmil Nadu will never accept this.

People from north know only one language from birth and they use it throughout their life and do not try to learn any other language. These morons want other people to speak Hindi. How fair is this?

South Indians know at least two more languages apart from their mother tongue.
