Mangalore: Aloysian Award Conferred on Four Eminent Persons

Mangalore, Jan 4: Four eminent alumni of the St Aloysius College were conferred with the Aloysian Award at the Aloysian Conclave organized by the Rector and Management of the College in association with Aloysian Partners International and Alumni Association at the Eric Mathias Hall here on Sunday January 4.
The recipients of the award were Dr K V Rao, scientist, Sweden, Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, chancellor, Yenepoya University, Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde and Aubrey D'Souza, president, the Aubrey D'Souza Charitable Trust. The award was presented in recognition of their contribution to the society in various fields. Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, cardiologist, Narayana Hrudayalaya Bangalore is another Aloysian chosen for the said award but could not attend the function.
Speaking after receiving the award, Justice Santosh Hegde said he would like to dedicate the award to his department. 'This has come to me by default. Honesty in the profession has brought it. I have been surprised by the comments of some people saying that I was a very honest judge. According to the profession every judge is bound to be candid in justice', he opined.
Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi dedicated his award to his father Y Moidin Kunhi for making his life fruitful by providing better education.
Delivering the annual Aloysian lecture on 'Trends in Nano science Enables Novel Technologies', Dr KV Rao, professor, department of Material Science, the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm said Nano science and Nano technology have become the most visible interdisciplinary topics of world-wide national strategic importance and interest today. Nano science is technology-driven, especially from the IT sector, he pointed out.
Fr Denzil, Dr Derek Lobo and Rector Fr Francis Serrao were present on the occasion.
