Mangalore, Jan 4: Come December-January and it’s the season of reunions. Very few know that this present trend of getting old classmates together by providing them a common platform was started in the year 1999, when the first standard classmates of the Class of 1969 of St Aloysius Primary School met at Komals Pushpanjali Hall. Last year, the class met again to cheer each other and resolved to make their reunion an annual affair.

This year’s reunion took place on the evening of January 3 at Mangalore Club premises here and included a number of activities to celebrate the common Aloysian bonding. This was followed by fellowship and dinner.

To highlight the occasion, the class specially invited and honoured their first teacher, Janet Periera, whose son also belongs to the same class and has come all the way from Canada with his mom to attend the event.

Incidentally, one of their classmates, Fr  Melwin Pinto has returned to the fold of  St  Aloysius, this time to serve as  the headmaster of the high School.

The reunion is the brainchild of Sumit Rao, Sunil Bhandary and Ranganath Kini.

Reunion Saga...

Hi Sumith, Namaskara, what a delightful way to meet and bring all the classmates, more so with our revered teacher Janet, who does hold a special place in my life. I fondly rememeber that grade 2 classroom which would overlook the hostel/science block.. memories are but treasures. Absolutly overwhelmed to see her in the picture, so graceful. Good to see you too Sumith, stay in touch. Well done !!! Ralph

Dear Sumith and the rest of the gang.Thank you for helping us put name to face on our classmates. I must admit I had earlier failed miserably in the classmate identification process. Where and when did all the beauty and charm on your faces vanish ? Naveen Frank, Sharjah, UAE

Thanks Sumith for taking the trouble in helping us identify those faces with the names. Trust me, I had to actually print out all the names then take them close to each one in the picture and try to match the following, I would have failed miserably otherwise. I have never spent so much time on any one picture, trying so hard to identify the picture along with faces in my memory. The next time I visit India, I guess, I need to contact Sumith for contacts. Dunstan, Jeevan and Sumith shocked me most. Have fun and cheers guys

Very emotional re-union. When someone leaves his school or college, hardly would he think that he would meet all of his classmates again. Because of efforts of likeminded people and also because of this electronic age, re-union has been made possible. This makes me to meet my old classmates. I did my primary education at St. Joseph's Ele. School at Kankanady (1969), High School at Milagres High School (1974) and College at Govt. College (1976) & St. Aloysius Evening College (1982), Mangalore. Can any of my classmates who happens to read this, remember me?  I am just longing to get in touch with you guys.

I am a bit fortunate to identify a number of you as I had met most of you last year on SACAA day. However, still a few faces are unfamiliar. Ranga, if you can send me the names and contact details that you have, I will add it with our exisiting  database that we have here in the Gulf so that we can get a consolidated database of all our classmates. Good to really see a large number of classmates connected even after nearly 30 years. At this pace we will get younger every year.

I was so surprised to see the Class of 69 on Daijiworld, and got a bigger surprise to see my mom in there. Thanks to you guys for the love you shared with my mom. I am sure it would have made her extremely happy and privileged. It’s awesome that you guys still remember and honor her. She was living with me in Canada for 2 years, and then she was in New Zealand with my brother, but she always loved to be back home, so there she is. My best wishes to all you guys. Sorry but I could not recognize any of you in the picture. I am sure you would say the same if you saw me.  Take care and all the best for the new year.

As Leroy says one of you please identify who's who and send the details to Ivan Fernandes or Naveen Frank, so that the rest of us know. I can only recognise Melwyn, Veerappan ( Dunstan), Sumith, Russel, Arnold and John. Its better to start planning now for next year's get together and my suggestion is that we include families too.

Hey Guys, great showing. Now we almost have a full class at the re union. Should make it a point to attend next year. Nice thought to invite Ms Janet Pereira to the re union. Would be obliged if one amongst you would identify who's who as from portrait mode we seem to have gone into landscape mode. Sad however that our hairlines and waistlines seem to have gone in opposite directions. C'st Le Vie. Rock on ... Class of 69
