Udupi, Jan 6: The review meeting of government schemes for minority community and their various issues were held on Monday January 5 evening, at Don Bosco Hall here, organized at the aegis of district Minority Forum.

State wakf and minority community welfare minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan, speaking at the occasion, said that he was born and brought up in diverse society, understood Hindu brethren very well.  Islam propagates its followers to love everyone and lead harmonious living.  Hindu brethren should accept one universal God since Veda and Quran are interrelated.  History has recorded only 26,000 prophets out of 1,26,000.  Jesus is also a prophet and Buddha, Krishna and Rama are social reformers sent by God.  The Haj pilgrims returned to their natives were much respected and heard in the past that should prevail even now.  Its only spiritual cleansing that can bring eternal rewards.  People of various faith, religion, caste and creed in the society should lead harmonious living, he urged.

Meanwhile, minister Mumtaz Ali Khan highlighted that India is the only country across the globe where Muslims lead much peaceful existence.  Hindus should come forward to protect the mosques and Muslims to join in protecting temples while both Hindus and Muslims unite to protect the churches.  It would bring communal harmony in the troubled district, he added

Minister Khan also symbolically handed over Rs 2.90 lac, loan advanced under Minority Development Authority to heads of two Self Help Groups at the same occasion.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, district Wakf Board Budan Basha Saheb, Kallianpur Milagres parish priest Fr Marcel Saldanha and Mukthar Ahmed were present at the dais.

Walter Pinto welcomed the gathering while Charles Ambler proposed vote of thanks.  Alphonse D Costa compered the programme.

Mr. Mumtaz Ali I do agree about your suggestions that these three religions should protect each other with harmony and friendship. but if you see today India does not think of  our freedom fighters, .Our country requires new young secular minded young politicans, and as said by our Ex president Dr. Kalam , by 2020 India will be free from national problems.

'Muslims should protect temples, Hindus should protect mosques'. I do not understand why any place of worship needs any protection? Protect from whom? Please define & be specific. There are enough rules and laws and constitutional rights to protect everyone. There are democratically elected people and civil administrators to see that this job is done. They are all paid by the people to do the job. The communal harmony should come from within and by abiding the rules and laws of the land. I do not understand this program and the contracts made to protect in this program. This is all a show and waste of time.

We are children of Mother Earth and hence we should attempt to live in harmony with one another bearing in mind that we have an obligation to to protect the rights and privileges of each and every person irrespective of case and creed. No religion advocates hatred against any one. It is expedient that minor differences are sorted out before they blow up in magnitude. The Honorable Minister has suggested that moslims protect the hindus and vice versa. I would go a step further and recommend that the rights and properties of all be save guarded.

Nice to see this interfaith gathering being a true display of harmony irrespective of caste or creed. It would be of great help if the our leaders/people from various faiths organize this kind of interfaith gathering time to time to promote peace and harmony in our society. Such kind of gathering will surely increase the trust and love among the people of different faith. Religion do not teach to hate, instead it teaches to maintain peace and harmony always. We do not loose anything in respecting or helping the people of other faiths, instead we get rewards from Almighty. Let us all unite irrespective of caste and creed and contribute lavishly to maintain peace and harmony in our society, state, country as well in the whole world itself. May Almighty guide us.
