Amount spent on Statue Of Unity 'priceless investment': Vice President

New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS): Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday called the Statue of Unity "a befitting memorial to Sardar Patel", adding that given its significance, the amount spent on erecting the statue was a "priceless investment".

Speaking after visiting the 182-metre statue (now the tallest statue globally) in Gujarat, Naidu said his "heart was filled with emotions and pride" and the visit gave him a feeling of completeness and a sense of unity of mind and soul.

"The splendid statue represents the vision and resolve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel towards achieving political integration of a 'unified India'. The historic statue stands as a reminder of the struggles the Sardar had undergone in unifying India," an official statement quoted Naidu as saying.

Saying that Patel's vision, courage and determination led to the integration of 565 princely states and paved the way for building a modern India, he lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking up the initiative to build it.

The Vice President said he had always felt that due recognition was not given to Sardar Patel in the past.

As per Naidu, the statue, inaugurated in October 2018, would create greater awareness among the people about Sardar Patel's monumental contribution to nation building.

Naidu encouraged the youth to visit the statue.

Talking about the humble beginnings of Patel who hailed from a farmer's family, he said it was "a matter of pride for all of us that a farmer was the architect of unified modern India", the statement added.

Ever since the two Gujjus began running the India show, the significant national projects all have gone to benefit the Gujjus.

The statue cost in excess of 7,250 crores.

According to the Gujarat Government, it will provide major tourism revenue with at least 15,000 people visiting each day.

So, the logic simple. All-India tax-payers pay for the statue, and the Gujjus will reap the befits for the next 1,000 years.

The same thing goes for the 150,000 crores bullet train, and the newly established All-India Railway University.

With just these three-thousand crores—and there are hundreds of other expenses of the “jhola-carrying fakir” that are not known or not audited—the BJP-led NDA government could have accomplished these feats.
    1. Build 5,98,000 school sanitary complexes with proper toilets that remain functional for a while at least.
    2. Fund ISRO's Mars Mission 5 times over.
    3. Increase the relief given to Kerala flood victims 5 times over.
    4. Donate the amount to the entire North-East that is still suffering from heavy floods.
    5. Adopt 725 villages like Donja, which was adopted by Sachin Tendulkar.
    6. Give the salaries of 28,15,533 contractual teachers in government schools. Or increase their salaries, for that matter.
    7. Raise 5,296 children from birth until the age of 21, including educational expenses.
    8. Help the BMC fix the Mumbai pothole situation twice!
    9. Add 449 buses to 1000 electronic buses to run on Delhi streets by 2019.
    10. Double the amount to be received by the Ministry of Earth Sciences according to the 2018 budget.
    11. Two new IIT campuses (considering one IIT campus costs Rs 1,167 crore).
    12. Two AIIMS campuses (considering one AIIMS cost Rs 1,103 crore).
    13. Five new permanent IIM campuses (considering one IIM campus costs Rs 539 crore).
    14. Five new solar power plants, each producing 75 megawatts of power (considering one power plant costs Rs 528 crore)
The Archaeological Survey of India has over 3600+ monuments under its custody, including 36 world heritage sites. It has to reach out to the private sector to adopt the monuments. In fact, ASI spent more money to build its new headquarters than it did on the conservation of the monuments in 2017.
We have a hive of problems in this country, none of which are getting any closer to being solved. So maybe, we could use these resources in places that would help better the lives of the citizens of this very country.
Vice President should have a moral responsibility to the nation rather than blind 'Bhakta'.

Sardar Patel is not above Mahatma Gandhiji. First Modiji should have given importance to Ghandiji 's Statue. This may be a down fall of his government. That what I believe.
