Mangalore: Vivek Shanbhag, Hema Naik to Inaugurate `Kavita Fest' at Shanti Kiran on Jan 10

Mangalore, Jan 8: Kavita Trust, fully devoted for the promotion and promulgation of Konkani poetry, will be organizing `Kavita Fest' for the third year in succession, at Shanti Kiran, Bajjodi near Nanthoor on Saturday January 10 at 5.30 pm.
Vivek Shanbhag, Hema Naik, Purnananda Chari
Prominent Kannada short story writer and editor of tri-monthly magazine `Desha-Kaala' Vivek Shanbhag will be the chief guest of the programme, while Konkani novelist and Central Sahitya Academi awardee Hema Naik will be the guest of honour. Konkani poet Purnananda Chari from Goa will preside over the multi-lingual poetry session, wherein poets from Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, Kodava and Beary languages will be taking part.
There will be folk dance performance by a group of Kudubis led by Gopala Gowda from Edapadavu. They will perform on `gumott' `toniyo' and `doriyo'.
On the occasion, `Prikriticho Paas' an anthology of Konkani poems by Melvyn Rodrigues and `Divyamrut' an epic poem based on a theme from the Bible by J B Moraes, Mumbai will be released.
Deepali Khambadkone will receive the `Mathias Family Poetry Award' on behalf of Aruna Rao Kundaje who is unable to make it to the function because of her old age. She will be given Rs 10,000 in cash, a memento and a certificate.
Prizes of the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues memorial second All India Konkani Poetry competition will be distributed during the programme. Yuga Adarkar, Efenzy Fernandes and Gayatri M Naik are the winners this time and they will get cash prizes of Rs 2000, Rs 1000 and Rs 750 respectively along with a certificate each.
Vinitha Naik, Goa, Guadalupe Dias, Goa, Nayana Adarkar, Goa, Henry M Pernal, Mangalore, Vally Vagga, Mysore, Ancy Paladka, Mumbai, (all Konkani), M Janaki, Brahmavar (Tulu), Aboobaker, Bantwal (Beary), Sandhya Devi, Puttur (Kannada) and B P Appanna, Coorg (Kodava) will participate in the poetry session.
There will be no entry fee for the function and all enthusiasts are welcome to attend the event.
