Mumbai, Jan 12: The Bunts Association organized its seventh sports day on Sunday January 11, at the Andheri Sports Complex here.
Association president and lawyer Ashok D Shetty was present. Former Olympian Vandana Rao inaugurated the sports meet by lighting the lamp. Vandana Rao, speaking on the occasion, said that sports activities are not restricted to only some sections or age groups within the society. It has the power to bind the athletes besides boosting physical energy and well being for the aged to be able to lead a healthy life. Sport is secular and the sports enthusiasts find opportunities in every field. It also opens up sports talents and energizes those engaged in it to lead a happy life, she pointed out.
Regency Group of Hotels managing director Jayaram N Shetty, in his presidential address, said that sports facilitates all round development of an individual.
Bunts Sangh president Aikala Harish Shetty, JAVAB president Anand P Shetty, 'Karnataka Malla' Kannada daily editor Chandrashekar Palettady and Vijaya Bank retired officer Sridar K Shetty were the distinguished guests present at the occasion.
Both state and national athletes participated in the sports meet held at the leadership of sports committee president C N Shetty.
Association president Ashok D Shetty presided over the concluding ceremony held at Sunday evening. Lumins Group of Companies director K C Shetty was the chief guest while Impress Paper Converters proprietor Prakash Rai, Association founder president Dr Shyam N Shetty, Bunts Sangh Pimpri – Chinchwada former president Y Vishwanat L Shetty and 'Udayavani' Kannada daily sub editor Umesh B K were the guests of honour of the occasion.
Association vice president Jayant K Shetty, honorary treasurer Santosh Shetty, sports committee president C N Shetty, women's wing president Vineeta C Shetty, secretary Jaya C Shetty, N C Shetty, Balakrishna K Shetty and others were present at the dais.
Arusha Shetty introduced the guests to the gathering. Sarala Shetty administered the oath to athletes. Honorary secretary Dr Ratnakar V Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Narayan Nandalike compered the programme.
