Mangalore, Jan 13: In response to a call for bandh given by Hindu organizations in protest against the murder of a local resident named Mohan Ranya (35) at around 9.30 pm on Sunday January 11, all the shops and establishments in Kinnigoly and the nearby Moorukaveri town downed their shutters on Monday January 12. Even the buses did not ply in these places.

Leaders of some Hindu organizations demonstrated against the above killing, by squatting on the main roads of these towns. Hindu organizations as well as the BJP leaders have threatened to undertake district-wide stir if the miscreants involved are not brought to book within 48 hours.

Some suspect that this murder has something to do with the slaining of a youth in Katipalla near Suratkal on January 10. Mohan Ranya was a simple man, who did not have connections with any organizations just like the youth from Katipalla murdered earlier, and did not mingle with others. He was going home after taking part in some religious programmes. It is felt, that the saffron robes he wore in preparation for his pilgrimage to Shabarimala might have attracted the ire of anti-social elements.

His body was taken out in a procession from Kinnigoly town to his home. BJP leaders Jagadish Adhikari, K Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, Satish Bhat, Namadev Kamath etc., took part in the protest. Schools in Kinnigoly and Kateel area declared holiday on Monday.

Chairman of Coastal Development Authority B Nagaraj Shetty who met the protestors, promised to arrange for the payment of a compensation of one lac rupees to the family of the deceased. He also said there is a need to provide additional funds to the family as the deceased was the only bread-winner of the family. MLA K Abhaychandra Jain who visited the family, held the failure of the government in maintaining law and order responsible for the murder of innocent people. Ex union minister B Janardan Poojary promised to bear educational expenses of the children in the family. Mohan Ranya who had married recently, also bore the responsibility of the two daughters of his younger brother, who died some time time ago due to ill health.

A case has been registered in Mulky station. The sniffer dogs led the policemen from the place of death to Moorukaveri junction. A piece of the sabre found at the spot has been taken away by the policemen.

Incidents like these were never heard of in the past in our undivided D.K.district during the previous decades where there was perfect harmony, brotherhood and amity amongst communities. These happenings at present and of the recent past are a direct result of the greed of some political parties which try to expouse the cause of a particular religion and mix religion in politics for capturing power through unconstitutional means by setting up one community against another and tutoring the soceity mainly youth to harbour animosity against a person practicising another religion which is not his.

One has to only pray to God to enlighten the minds of these misguided elements in soceity so that this trend stops at the earliest and peace prevails. And parties which indulge in these dubious ways are going to pay a heavy price for their misdeeds sooner than later though they might have reaped some short term electoral gains.

It is a pity that the place that I lived and grew up has been divided. A prosperous city has been made to suffer. An educated people have been made to hate each other. It is time all people of goodwill come together and defeat the forces of division and strife. . Let us shun the vested interests of political parties and place our people who are committed to a humanitarian society to contest the next elections as independents Amruth Rao

What has happened to our Mangaloreans ??? We never had any differences between Hindu, Muslim and Christian etc etc. Nowadays innocent guys are killed for no reason ??? What is this for ??? By killing somebody innocent, you can clear the issues ??? This act of anti social elements is going to worsen the condition in and around Mangalore, unless serious steps are taken by the Government.

Human being has no value in our districts. Any murder can now communalise first than politicise next. Where is word of humanity? What our current district administration doing? Disgusting.

PEOPLE,I was born in this very small town, graduated from Belman with highest score in SSLC back in 1969, graduated with MBBS from KMC Hubli, served my beloved country for 9 long years and then settled down in USA.These kind of news really hurts me when I keep thinking back that India is one of safest nation when it comes to law and order and southern India in general are far more full of NORMAL people who would put their country ahead of RELIGIOUS EXTREMISTS.

What is Chairman of the Coastal Authority Mr. Nagaraja Shetty doing here. Now that he is in this procession, politicising of this murder by giving communal color to this murder will start now. I wish the promises that these politicians made to the family of deceased will be made available to the family of the deceased soon.

By murdering innocent Mohan Ranya what these murderers achieved? The blood of a innocent man is spilled and the agony of the deceased member's family for which they are not party to any anti social activities. My sympathies to the bereaved members of families who have lost their dear ones. The society should outcaste all these so called anti social who disturb peace of the community. Be aware, the election is approaching shortly within two to three months and there are elements who will divide communities for their selfish goal. They will go to any extent to ignite fire of disharmony amongst communities. Watch out these anti social elements.
