Mangalore, Jan 14: Nitte University vice chancellor Ln MJF Dr M Shantaram Shetty has called upon the members of the Lions Clubs to work as the guiding forces of harmony among the general public, in addition to getting satisfaction by tirelessly serving the downtrodden classes of the society.
He was speaking after participating as chief guest, in the regional conference of Lions International district 324-D5 on the evening of Sunday January 11, at the Vijaya College Grounds in Mulky. He exhorted those present, to respond to the grievances of the common people without having any selfish motives behind such actions, as this is the essence of true service.
Prof M Krishne Gowda from Mysore, who took part in the conference as a guest, released the souvenir brought out on the occasion. In his address, he opined that it is possible for the human beings to lead a contented life till the end, if they do service and sacrifice for their inner satisfaction. He started his address by commenting in lighter vein, that the citizens of Dakshina Kannada district do not know how to laugh.
Ronald Colaco, industrialist from Bangalore and noted community leader, music composer Udaykumar V Ninjur from Mumbai, Manjushree M K, RJ of Big FM 92.7 and Aikala Sannidhi Shetty, child artiste, were felicitated for their achievements. On behalf of Sannidhi, her father Aikala Harish Shetty, an entrepreneur from Mumbai, accepted the felicitation.
In response, Ronald Coloco appreciated the Lions International for serving the down-trodden and the economically por sections of the society selflessly.
R G Shenoy, managing director Canara Lighting, Punaroor was awarded the Melvyn Jones Fellowship, being given to non-Lion entrepreneurs, by Lions district governor Mohan Kamat. On this occasion, R G Shenoy donated a sum of Rs 1.25 lac for the drinking water facility of Mulky CSI Girls Hostel through the Lions governor.
International Lions district 324-D5 regional president Ln M Sarvotham Anchan presided. First lady of the region Jyoti Anchan inaugurated the conference. Assistant governor Alwyn Patric Patrao, Conference Committee honorary president Ln K Somappa Suvarna, Ln Harikrishna Punaroor, honorary secretary Vijay Kumar Kubevoor, treasurer Ravishankar Rai, various zone presidents and guests were present at the dais.
Ln Satish Kamath and Lioness Asha Ramadas Kamat presented the programme. Mulky Leo members presented entertainment programme. Conference Committee secretary Ln Vijay Kumar Kubevoor proposed vote of thanks.
