Riyadh: Ismail Murder - Funeral Rites Take Place after Two Months

Riyadh, Jan 15: After more than two months since he was done to death, the entombment rites of Jokatte Ismail were conducted on Wednesday January 14, at around 1 pm at Mansoura Cemetery after the Janaza (Dead body) Prayer was held at Gubairah Masjid in Riyadh.
Jokatte Ismail, aged about 38, son of the late Idinabba and Beebi couple from Jokatte in Mangalore, was brutally murdered at his room at Bath'ah in Riyadh City Centre on November 9, 2008 at around 7 pm. The corpse was kept in the mortuary of Riyadh Central Shimeshi Hospital pending completion of the legal procedures since the case was of murder. All the concerned departments in Riyadh handed over the required documents for the release and burial of the dead body to the relatives of the deceased some three days back. The family of the deceased had given their consent in writing for the burial in the Kingdom and also for other formalities to be conducted here.
A large number of people mostly Mangaloreans, including the deceased's close relatives and friends took part in the funeral rites. Indian Fraternity Forum-Riyadh Unit and other organizations and persons were present at the ritual and expressed their commiseration at the untimely death of Jokatte Ismail. The deceased is survived by his mother, wife and two minor sons, brothers and sisters and other relatives and friends.
Three persons had been taken into police custody in connection with this case. The Riyadh police have picked up one more person, who is a Mangalorean named Jamal, some three days back for investigation. The wives of the two Keralites, who are in police custody in this connection, have already submitted their petitions to the concerned authorities including the State and Central Ministers of India, asking them to provide all the legal assistance for securing their release. The petition for the legal assistance and release of Rasheed from Jokatte, who is also in police custody, had recently been submitted to the ambassador of Indian Embassy in Riyadh. At the request of the father of Rasheed, the petition was submitted to the Indian Embassy by P A Hameed, Daijiworld Correspondent and Advocate, on his behalf some time back. Some of the senior residents in Riyadh also have taken interest in this regard. They also expressed their deepest condolences on the unnatural death of Jokatte Ismail and said that it is a huge loss for his family as well as the community.
