Mangalore: Ghastly Road Accident : Two Die on the spot, Another Succumbs in Hospital

Mangalore, Jan 16: In a terrible accident that occurred near Gurpur at around 9 am  on Friday January 16, two motor-bike borne youngsters lost their lives while a pedestrian succumbed to injuries later in hospital.

A truck moving towards Mangalore and a  motor bike going towards Kaikamba were involved in the accident. Both the persons killed in the accident on the spot were on the motor bike. A pedestrian who was critically injured in the accident, died later in a hospital.

Reportedly, the lorry was rashly driven and the  driver swerved to the right while trying to avoid a pot hole and hit the motor bike. The deceased have been identified as Bharath(45) from Adarsh Nagar, Karmar in the city  and Quasim(37) from Sirahatti Dharwad who was working here since 13 years, both  employees of Dinesh Timbers, which has factories in Sooralpady and Yeyyadi.  Reportedly, both of them were proceeding to their work place as Bharath drove the bike. On the way, they met Umesh, a worker of the same firm and were talking with him when tragedy struck.








Umesh (45) from Moodushedde was shifted to Tejaswini Hospital in the city but died later. Bharath is survived by wife and two children while Umesh is survived by wife and three children. While families of Bharath and Umesh have come to claim their bodies, Qasim's family is yet to arrive in the city.

Traffic on state highway 13 was thrown out of gear  for some time due to the accident. The Bajpe police rushed to the spot and cleared the road. The police conducted inquest and registered a case.

The truck driver fled from the scene immediately after the accident, the police said.

    Such a  tragic incident! Nowadays it has become a regular affair.Wreckless driving kills the innocent.  The road transport authority must tackle this problem with strict actions

    Sad to hear of such a tragedy. May their souls rest in peace. Indeed the deplorable state of the roads is partly to blame. This in no way absolves the responsibility of this and other drivers of heavy vehicles, including lorries/trucks and buses. No civilised society will tolerate such arrogantly dangerous driving - as though they are the sole owners of the road and none else should come in their way, as one often sees in the Udupi area too, especially on NH-17. I feel that the licencing authorities must also take a big share of the blame. One finds many drivers and riders alike not having the slightest sense of road rules or respect for human life. Also, why are so many who can ride public transport opt to ride the two-wheelers when it is plain that they have little chance of survival in any major accident even if they themselves are careful and/or confident of their ability.

    Rash & irresponsible drivers who are involved in accidents that kill people must be treated like cold blooded murderers. They must recieve strict punishment or atleast spend their lives in jail. And this is precisely the law that India lacks. Whoever driver is involved in an accident flees the scene only to go to a lawyer and get a anticipatory bail. Then he goes to the court a couple of times and the whole incident is forgotten and the culprit goes scotfree. Why??Because no one could prove the crime. Is it not enough that the court knows which vehicle caused the accident and who was driving it at the time??? Alas who else if not the court will defend the dead?

    Time and again accidents have been taking the lives of innocent people! Mangalore lorry and bus drivers are known for rash driving and maiming  and killing people! Strict action has to be taken and this calls for stringent laws for these outlaw drivers!!

    What a co-incident Bharath has been killed by the truck Bharath. Our government will never accept the fact that our roads are the leading killers. Where does the tax payers money go ?
