Mangalore, Jan 18: The scenic Pilikula is failing to attract more tourists due to a   shortage in transport facilities, and the district administration has a  plan  to  increase the number of buses to the place, in an effort to boost tourism, said V Ponnuraj, deputy  commissioner.

He was speaking after inaugurating additional sectors on the golf course at Pilikula on Sunday December 18.

“The district administration will ask private bus operators to provide more buses. If they fail, government buses will be provided,” he said. “Joint operation of private and government buses is adequate,” he added.

Three sectors of the golf course will be open for members of the golf club and a golf tournament will be held her on Saturday January 31 and Sunday February 1, said  K C Naik, president of the Golf Club. “Now  the club has 330 members of which 35 to 40 are participating in the tournament,” he said adding, “we plan to increase the membership to  400”.

J R Lobo, project director, Pilikula Park Society, K V Devadiga, secretary, Golf Club, and other members and office-bearers were present at the inauguration.

Thanks Pilikula golf club & daiji for beautiful snaps. Its a good news for golf lovers, contrary this game is called rich mans game but we/ i urge some sports club, institutions or the golf course club itself to train/coach the young players who are interested for a affordable fee, also rent them golf gears if required. Most of the people in mangalore doesnt have much knowledge about golf so to make the sport popular/interesting, golf club has to encourage the new entrants by coaching and organising tournaments.

Now we have a lot of tourist places around Pilikula like Manasa water park, Pilikula wildlife sanctuary, Bird Sanctuary, Pilikula boat race and now Pilikula Golf Club to name a few, travel agents along with the Government support should organize travel packages to encourage tourists to visits these fantastic places. We have very nice cottages in Manasa to fit the pockets of every budget consious tourist. Since we have direct flights available from all over the gulf, a concerted effort is needed to make this place a tourist success.
