Mangaluru, Feb 2: District in-charge minister U T Khader visited Pavoor Uliya on Saturday, February 3 where a temporary bridge built by the residents of the island was destroyed by miscreants.

Minister reached the place within hours after the incident was reported.

The miscreants, believed to be members of sand mafia, allegedly destroyed the bridge and vehicles parked on the riverside.

The island was news after Daijiworld exposed the apathy of the government in addressing the woes of the residents. While no help was offered by the government, the residents had recently constructed the temporary bridge using their hard-earned money.

The residents had recently had raided the boats of the sand mafia and later helped the authorities to seize more boats.

This incident is termed as revenge act.

It is now said that at around 8.30 pm on Saturday night, mines and geology department officials raided the sand dockyard at Pavoor Uliya and seized 7 boats. This incident must have prompted the miscreants to destroy the bridge and damage the vehicles.
